Maybe you can find some 17"alloy take-off wheels and run some Nokian tires, noit sure what tires you prefer but they usally are top rated.

 

I dropped from 225/50R18 to 215/65R16 for winter on an alloy rim. I prefer a higher sidewall for winter driving. Very close match in overall wheel/ tire height. 0.4% increase. I agree that with the winter wheel on for 5 months an alloy is worthwhile.

 

I found some alloy rims with 205/55R17 tires. Will they do?

 

No. Your wheel diameter will be too small at 205/55R17. You need 225/55R17 or 215/65R16. If shopping used or on site that doesn’t yet list the Taos look for wheel and tire which fit the earlier generation Tiguan

These and some nice 225/55R17 tires should work.

 

We went with some 17s from Tirerack. Have used winters on all the previous cars too!

 

I am now thinking on going for the OEM Lupin wheels (graphite black) or the Replika R167 (black gloss) wheels. The Replika are less expensive. I wonder which option will look better on a pure grey Taos?

 

Hey everyone!

Currently based in Houston but set to drive to Denver later this week. I currently have the stock Bridgestone Turanza All Season tires. Do yall think that will be sufficient for a week trip? Weather forecast has some snow coming in somedays. Very worried coming from a Jeep Wrangler that got caught in snow storm last year in Utah.. All help appreciated, thanks!

 

Houston to Boise transplant here... they usually do a good job keeping the roads clear of snow (the main roads anyway), but they can be nasty with fresh snowfall before they have a chance to plow them - even the Interstates can get bad in heavy snow. The weather for Denver itself looks pretty decent for the next week. A few flurries Friday night but then some pretty warm days until Monday. Some snow on Tuesday.
Ice is the worst. Keep an eye on road conditions (look for 511 road conditions websites). Winter tires are great in snow, but ice is still scary no matter what you have on.
If you run into snow the Turanzas will not be ideal, but if you are sensible you should be OK. It would be pretty expensive to get winter tires if you wouldn't use them much. Certainly not much good for Houston!

That’s frustrating for you - been there myself. Yes, your side wall height and wheel diameter will be too small with your 205/60R16. if the wheel fits and you like the style, you could just change the tire.

 

Think I will be going 16s this year, keep my wheels...need to make sure they fit but they are VW Toronto wheels. Will have to get new tires for them though!

 

Yes might have to go that route. But already have a couple of coworkers interested in the set, even though they don't drive VW! Should have negotiated a deal on new winters when I got the car!
Still waiting to get it, had a dream that I got an email from the sales manager that it was ready! Sigh...few more weeks to go!

my 2022 front wheel drive Taos came with 215/50/R18 rims and tires. I want to put snows on it - will the following 215/55/R17 rim fit? The R17 rim specs are:
size: 17x7.5
offset: + 42mm
back spacing: 5.984"
bolt pattern: 5x112mm

will i need spacers?
