Disappointed that towing is not allowed with the Taos.

Thank you again for contacting Volkswagen Customer Care regarding the Taos!

I am following up with you after reviewing your Taos towing inquiry with my internal resources. The Taos is not designed for towing a trailer. With that being said, no trailer hitch may be retrofitted. Since the Taos is not designed for towing, we do not have a recommended towing capacity for the model whatsoever.

It’s a raised Golf. A Compact CUV. Not an SUV. It is what it is. The 1.5T is simply not for towing.
If you want minimal towing from a VW, you need a Tiguan or 2.0T Atlas. Real towing requires a V6 Atlas.

Understood, not for towing.....however installing a bike hitch for recreational activities is something that should be supported. I bought a Taos and then found out after I cant install a hitch just to carry around bikes, that is ridiculous.

Agreed. You would have to go aftermarket for that. And it won’t void your warranty if you don’t tow.

VW always pushes their base carrier bar and rack system for bikes but who wants to lift dirty bikes onto the roof? And you can’t pull into garages or even some drive throughs.

Was able to mount a hitch on my after watching many videos surrounding the golf . I ended up ordering a hitch from etrailer.com for a 2021 golf and it lines up perfectly to the frame. Only had to trim the plastic cover underneath in a couple of spots. Hitch number CURT11412. Install took me 1 hour .

This makes me so happy!!! All I need it for is hauling 2 mountain bikes!!
I feel you ! This is my first suv , I have driven trucks for the last 20 years and when I was told no hitch existed for the Taos I went on mission to figure it out and sure enough the golf hitch fits perfectly! You just have to notch the plastic cover underneath the car upon final assembly.

Here is the link below. Just remember it’s not exactly the same underneath the Taos, the bolt holes shown are identical though. If you are moderately mechanically inclined the process is quite easy !

Yep, my first SUV as well! A long time VW driver I was pissed when there wasn’t a receiver available for this. I probably would have bought something else! If it isn’t to much trouble could you take a picture of the notches you had to cut? For reference.
