I just got a letter from Volkswagen extending the warranty on the rear brakes. You may get one soon.

Same for me. VW has acknowledged the rear brake pad issue and has extended warranty to 2 years/ 40,000 km (24,000 miles) with an option to seek reimbursement for pad changes already made.

Brake pad part number has been replaced with new part #. SO new pads for replacement rears. 5Q0698451R to 5Q0698451AF

You should be getting a letter with a form and your VIN number on it soon.

I just recently moved to a new address, so I probably won't get any letter related to this issue. I have been trying to change my rear brake pads since the January but they kept saying me that it should be less then 2mm and my rear brake pads are 3mm right now. It would be great if I have the recall code.

Didn’t you forward your mail? Mention the recall to the dealer.

Got the letter. Just finished the 10k check annd multi point brake inspection and they said that the rear brakes AND rotors have to be replaced. VW warranty is only covering the dusty OEM brake pads and they want me to pay $526 for the rotors to be replaced. I use ACC almost always when driving and I was hit from behind by a police car while using ACC so I wonder what is going on with this car! I don’t want to spend $700 every year to replace the rear brakes!

Quick question, How did you retract the rear calipers? Just hit 31000 miles and down to 4mm of pad thickness on ours.

I received the letter last month. Didn’t notice any noise.. fast forward to today, my ‘22 is in for the 20k service and I was notified that my rear pad thickness was at 1mm. I had to remind them of the warranty extension. They had the pads in stock and are replacing them. I actually hate this car, and not fond of my dealer any more.

I feel your pain. I am at 15K miles and stopped using the cruise control just after 7K miles when I started seeing complaints about the premature rear brake wear. This car does a lot of things really well but there are a few things that grate my nerves and feel like it’s going to bit me in the arse at some point.

This car does a lot of things really well but there are a few things that grate my nerves and feel like it’s going to bit me in the arse at some point.

New Centric POSI-Quiet pads arrived today. Installed them in less than one hour without a lift and a couple of hand tools + Carista.
cleaned the barrels and will compare the difference in the amount of brake dust after a couple of weeks driving.
