Hello im a new Taos owner i have had it about 2 months now just hit 2k miles i love the car the transmission could use a little help but i got the Carista and changed to direct throttle and i even got the thorton chip and oh man the car is quick and when i say quick it'll throw your head back in a sec. I know some people said its not worth it but the performance gains are really noticeable and im a speed lover, the thorton chip actually does fix the gas pedal lag but now its the transmission that feels slow i was wondering if anyone has installed these paddles on their S model as its from the official VW parts website has anyone actually bought these on the forum and if so how was installation and does it require any coding or just plug and play also how is the performance of the paddles themselves? I really haven't see anyone mention the paddles on any posts and im really debating getting them i just want to know if i can just buy and install and not need coding or if there is coding involved. Thornton chip? What’s this snack?
Its one of the only obd2 plug and play that i could find and it genuinely works I've had it maybe 2 weeks now and the difference in speed and throttle response is 100% noticeable it also changed the RPMs i use to cruise on 5th gear to save gas and now i have to go up to 6th save more gas so it definitely is legit i haven't had any problems at all car is running great. It has 3 different HP options for the tuning i got the 60hp tune and i can definitely feel it, i haven't gotten a chance to check the actual hp i was at 200hp before the chip and i haven't tested after the chip i will probably do another post on the actual performance and stats for anyone that's interested my car is stock btw only has chip no air filter either.

Interesting
It's a dummy OBDII dongle thing that does nothing. Maybe flashes an LED.

From their website:
"Once our performance tuning chip is plugged into your OBD2 port it starts remapping your Electronic Control Unit(ECU)"
BS - it can't.

"After driving about 125 total road miles, our tuning chip will adjust itself to your vehicle’s engine "
So, it's a single design for multiple vehicles that adjusts to your engine? More BS.

It asks you to select your vehicle. No matter what you pick it still asks you how many cylinders it has and does not seem to know that a 2022 Golf TDI does not exist.
Also, no matter what vehicle you pick you get the same 3 options. +20hp, +40hp, +60hp. I put in a 2004 Golf TDI, the slowest vehicle on Earth, and it still promises +60hp for $89.95.

Google their address - it's a UPS store...

You say that when you clearly haven't bought and used it. It definitely works once i get my stuff set up i can show u the logs of the car it might not be state of the art but its been working for me and i can tell you the performance difference is 100% noticeable. Ill say this now the 125 mile thing i can tell you is BS forsure but the performance aspect and throttle adjustment definitely works is it 60hp idk like i said i have to set up my stuff so i can actually test the car and see the logs ive been doing so many pulls with the car to tell that there are 100% performance gains it does adjust the gas pedal but the like constant tuning 125 mile thing is def not true im not associated with the site or anything literally just paid $89 for the chip and tried it out and it does work like i said ill be doing testing and ill show you guys the logs when i get to test it

Interesting, why VW does not alter or implement the setting if it is safe and legal in terms of regulations?
Dont ask me man i just bought the thing for the performance but if i could take a guess they have all these things slowing down the car for engine health longevity but that's just my guess

I'm happy if it works for you but I'm a little confused about some things.
How did you determine that your stock Taos had 200hp before the chip? Did you dyno it? Do you have logs from that? A stock Taos is rated at 158hp. VW tends to overdeliver in actual performance figures but not by that much.
Why on earth would you "cruise on 5th gear" and now have to "go up to 6th" in a car with a 7-speed automatic (DSG) transmission? Do you really leave it in manual mode all the time and never use 7th gear?
How does it know the protocol for "remapping" the ECU for every make of car out there? That would be an enormous amount of development work and would be unlikely to fit in a small OBDII dongle as it would need some fairly serious computing power.
I'd love to buy one and take it apart, but I really don't want to give my information to the perpetrators of such an obvious scam.

For the 200hp diagnosis i bought carista and plugged it in and used Dash Command which has alot of features one of them is estimating hp based on the AFR and other info from the car i also have those logs wich i can show you once i find out how to export it from my phone. And i worded the cruising thing wrong but before the chip when i would be in sport mode and i would cruise in 5th gear 1900rpm i would get good gas mileage and now after the chip it doesn't save as much on 5th so i cruise on 6th meaning the chip is giving the car more fuel for more power and its definitely working. And i only go in 7th gear when im hitting 80mph plus otherwise 7th doesnt get touched tbh. I know it looks very sketchy and you probably have some knowledge about VWs and other stuff but you cant know everything my guy i dont need to lie im here because i like my car and i like going fast. And the ECU mapping is specific for the model it doesnt work on any other car model if u buy this specific one

alright i recorded a video of the data log from dash command because idk how to get the spreadsheet from the phone BTW when i did this pull the car was in auto i forgot to do it in manual Oh and also the throttle was set do direct instead of the other one i had switched that by this time
There is no way a stock Taos has 200hp

Im telling you man if u guys want to have a chat im down to talk and share the full logs but my taos has always been quick since the first day i got it with 15 miles on it i wanted to make it faster so i bought the carista and changed the direct throttle then i found out i could use dash command to see the all the specs and stuff u usually cant see and this is what i got so since the car obviously has one OBD port i cant use dash command while the chip is plugged in so i cant test it but i should be getting my OBD splitter tomorrow and ill have both plugged in and ill be able to see the full logs of what the chip has changed and compare with the old logs

So what your saying is the official 158hp figures on the car is not true.

I think you getting the estimated and actual very mixed up. Relying on dash commander to give you a real world hp isn’t realistic.
The Taos does not have 200 Hp

Im not saying every taos is 200hp but im saying mine is and dash command is live input recording not estimated, real time input it was pretty accurate while i drove tap tap instant response on the app it recorded the live input it has the torque everything i didn't show u the full logs its 2022 my guy this is accurate from my side i dont see why it would lie once the boost gets there it hits it i can feel it you have to be there to see it i cant tell u anything else
