Hyundai/Kia cut costs by not installing engine kill switches linked to key fobs in non-keyless ignitions. This feature has generally been standard for years.
Because Hyundai doesn’t have it, you can “hotwire” all 2021 and earlier base trim Hyundai and Kias with a simple trick and steal them. There’s a tiktok challenge of course, and kids are boosting the cars and crashing them for fun.
Its crazy. GM started using them in the 80s after all GMs were getting stolen (especially Camaros and TransAms) Insurance went through the roof for those Vehicles. Now Everything GM produces has one. Crazy that Hyundai didnt lear that lesson. The worst part is even if you Buy one with an immobilizer chip in it.. the illiterate numbnuts stealing cars just break into everything With a Hyundai or Kia badge...

The downside is that the reason there are so many carjackings and armed car thefts is because the cars won’t start without the key.

Im in the market for a new Vehicle, I am one of the countless victims of the whole Kia Hyundai Theft ring.. Im trying to decied between the TAOS and the Tiguan, Id like to know if there are any Taos owners with a bit of buyers remorse?... or was the Taos the smart buy. Im riding the fence on this purchase and any help would be really appreciated.!!!
I've had my 2022 TAOS for a month and it has great gas mileage and don't let the size fool you it's very roomy inside and nice. It's definitely a baby Atlas. It does suffer from turbo lag but so fat that's been the only negative.

Not sure this actually works. Crack the sunroof if you have one. or the rear windows.

My 14 Beetle suffers from this too. Sunroof crack and we are good. obviously no rear windows on that car

This thread needs to get back to the OP's question. I've only had my SE for a little over a week and so far it's been great. The gas milage is excellent my long term average with 1100 miles is 37.2 with 900 of that being a interstate road trip. It was very comfortable, held the dogs crate and our luggage easily. It is quiet and there were no rattles which is more than I can say about the 2021 GTI that was trade for the Taos.

Current Taos is first gen with several issues, but i would never buy hyundai over VW considering VW reliability etc
