Superb paint quality

Today was a full detail for our 8 month old Taos Highline. The Deep Black Pearl paint looks amazing after clay bar (where necessary) and a coat of synthetic wax. Next week we'll add a coat of P21S carnauba for an even deeper shine.

What really impressed me though was the quality of the paint application. The Deep Black Pearl is a complex color with silver and blue metallic particles that reflect the sun, and the application is smooth and even, no orange peel, no defects. Like all modern water based paint it is soft, but we haven't done many highway kilometres so very few rock chips.

Anyway, the paint is every bit as nice as on my Porsches so for VW's entry level SUV I think that's a big accomplishment.

Our Kings Red Metallic is also a high quality paint job.

Been happy with the overall paint finish on our Taos too, it does chip easily on the door edges but that's typical of the environmentally friendly paint that's req'd now.

Deep black pearl has been around for a long time. They've had time to perfect it. If I recall the 2003 20th Anniversary GTI and 2004 R32 were some of the first cars to get it. My R32 was Deep Blue pearl, a color unrivaled today by any modern VW.
