Our list when looking was very similar to yours but after test driving and both Kia and Hyundai being way over MSRP due to shortages we went with the Taos S and love it. Fwd so no new trailer needed for behind the RV. Our old dolly will work fine. around 5000 miles on it now and no running issues. Only issue is a dealer ad on stone protection wrap that is peeling on one door

Good to hear.

Problem for me is that the FWD S (trendline) is too base for the price and top trim (for two options I'd like) is too much. A fully loaded NISSAN QASHQAI SL Platinum AWD is still $6500 cheaper (but still expensive) to a SEL (highline) Taos.

The SE here in the states is available in FWD with the 8 speed auto. I am not sure why Canada would be different

Interesting that FWD is only available on the Trendline (our "S").
Which options were you looking for? I see the Comfortline has a "sun and wheels" package - 18" wheels and the sunroof for C$1500 which is not a bad deal (sunroof is $1200 and 18" wheels $350 in the US).

The options I'd like are spread across the trims and I'd like to avoid AWD.

I forgot to specify Nissan Qashqai to my previous post.😟
That would be the rouge sport here in the US. It was too small for me to fit into.... Yes the biggest qualifier was if I fit. That alone knocked out the Toyota Rav 4 and Highlander and The Jeep renegade. The Hyundai Kona was tight as was the Kia Seltos. The Kia Soul was comfortable but ugly as sin, little to no baggage space and over MSRP. The Subaru crosstrek and forester were both unavailable and the Taos S hit all of our marks. I fit in the back seat with the front seats all the way back and that says something as I am 6'6" tall. The taos is now my wifes daily and I got her old 2016 Dodge Journey. Now it is time to find that rear for my old truck.

Taos and Soul definitely is good for interior space. Qashqai/Seltos are the smallest I'd go. Crosstrek felt cramped. Now I have to check out the Toyota Corolla Cross (non turbo, Mid Trim LE FWD).In top trim without extra options is $3000 cheaper than similar Taos.

I will agree with the Crosstrek being a little cramped but it has more space for the driver than a 97 outback. Now the forester was comfortable up front but a little tight in the back. Comparing to past owned vehicles the Taos on interior comfort and room is on par with a 2012 Kia Sorento. We had looked at those also but the price has gone through the roof for something that has not changed a huge amount.

Here ours are TRENDLINE (S), COMFORTLINE (SE) and then HIGHLINE (SEL).

From what I've seen on the build site, I'd prefer FWD overall. It is only available on S, but the S is missing a lot of things I'd like, especially for the price. Plus FWD is only available to rental companies in Canada.

SE may be the best "deal", but I'm stuck with AWD.

SEL has a lot I don't want and its overpriced. Especially annoying is that remote start is available only at this trim, and only within another package. :cautious:
I have an SE and remote start is available on mine.

The CX-30 is smaller than you think. Inside, the Taos is almost as roomy as the CX-5. Having owned a CX-5, we sold it after a year and bought the Tiguan because the CX-5 felt big to drive but wasn’t so inside, and the infotainment system was awful.

Doesn’t sound like they have fixed the infotainment aspect, and the CX-30 is a lifted 3 so it’s smaller than the Taos.

I am about to roll 1000 miles on my 23 SEL. And I have no regrets. I love all the buttons and the sunroof and AWD. I think it’s the most attractive small SUV on the road and my first VW! It’s all about what you like but I vote for this zippy little SUV! Plenty of room too!
