Hi,

Yesterday while waiting for someone I was playing with the fader control of my Beatsaudio system. When selecting the front speakers the sound is not that bad, but sending sound to rear speakers only makes this sound like an empty can, no bass at all and highs are not there either. So, I went to the back seat and could hear the speakers at the lower part of the doors but there are no tweeters at all. There is not even a grill in the door cover where the tweeters could be located.

The Beatsaudio is advertised as (screenshot attached):
"BeatsAudio® Premium Audio System - 8 speakers plus subwoofer"

After this I started counting speakers:
2 x "treble speakers" (tweeters) in the A pillars (with the Beats logo)
2 x bass speakers in the lower part of the front doors
2 x bass speakers in the lower part of the rear doors

That makes a total of 6 speakers. I am missing 2! Maybe someone can explain further on this. (The subwoofer doesn't count, remember it says "8 speakers plus subwoofer") Any thoughts?

The diagram that I am also including shows the "treble speaker" in a location where the door cover has no grill. Highs are not able to cross a hard cover so I doubt there is even a tweeter there. I think that Beatsaudio with 8 speakers is a scam! lol

Its possible they switched to a stacked 2-way configuration in the rear to save cost and it simply sounds bad when isolated because it’s in the door bottom? It’s technically 2 speakers…
Maybe, I used a lamp to look into the speaker grill and all that I could see was a single speaker cone. The only way to know is by removing the door panel.

OK, this video shows 8 including the center dash and subwoofer.

Hi, I saw it! But it seems the information in the video is wrong. Good proof that not all that is on Youtube is true!

The center speaker is described as "Emergency Call Module Speaker" (car-net), so it is not for the Audio system.

Still missing 2!

Maybe someone in the USA (with a SEL) can contact VOA with their VIN number and ask for this specific information. I am in Canada and Volkswagen Canada has a pretty sh*tt* service. For example, I found out that they the dealer had removed the "data labels" from my Taos and I contacted Volkswagen canada to ask for the manufacture date of my Taos, their response was: "As requested, your vehicle’s in-service date is 2022-01-27." Lol ( it is clear that I know when my car was delivered, I wouldn't ask that). Just for fun I will reach them to ask this, I will post their answer here.

If your Taos has Car-Net there should be already a speaker there.
I have an SE which is a 6 speaker system, that would be 4 in the front doors including the tweeters, and 2 in the back doors. If there is a speaker in the center front it's certainly not being used for music, which is the intent of what my question was aimed at- if I want to install a speaker as a 5th, is the wiring already present- I'd imagine they are using the same head unit to save costs.

Just checked and my sticker does not list the number of speakers. Just says Beats something audio system. Where is the claim for 8 speakers? I thought I read that as well.
The Beats is an 8 speaker- 4 in the front doors including tweeters, 2 in back doors, one front center and the subwoofer in the spare tire cavity.

Interesting, I also see mixed information. vw.com shows it as "Beatsaudio" only, while vw.ca shows it as "8 speakers plus subwoofer". My car info also has the following in the sticker information "132 9VG L LSE BeatsAudio®". I think that we are starting to solve the mystery. To me it seems that the standard for BeatsAudio (GLI for example) is to have 8 speakers. But VW cut corners with the Taos and just installed 6. It seems that this caused confusion even with part of their marketing team. Let's see what VW Canada has to say (they do advertise it as 8 speaker).

Is there a subwoofer in the spare tire?

This doc may help you locate those elusive rear tweeters:
There is no "grill" or opening for a tweeter in that position. I will remove one of the rear door covers during the next week just to confirm. But it seems that it is a 6 speaker (+ subwoofer) system and not an 8 speaker system (as advertised in Canada).
