Same here. It’s very loud and startles everyone in the car. It sounds exactly like a large rock had hit the windshield on the passenger side. I’m only 500 miles in on this Taos SEL 4 motion and this noise has happened many times. I have a service appointment scheduled for 1/10/22, but trying to get in sooner. I worry that they won’t be able to replicate at the appointment. Has anyone figured out what this is? I’m in upstate NY

I took my Taos in yesterday to get the popping sound looked at. The service department said they couldn't find anything wrong so this was a wasted trip. I will reschedule with another dealership.

Were they able to tell you why this is happening?

I hear it. Same thing my Veloster Turbo does. There are various checks the car regularly does shortly after start up and shortly after shut down (you should hear some odds and ends sounds when you turn the car off too). I’m personally not worried about it.

I was hearing this and didn’t think much of it. My windshield did end up cracking, starting from the very top in the dead center. No idea if it’s related but I never heard/saw anything hit my windshield and don’t specifically recall the popping noise since it cracked. No aftermarket options for windshields yet, and $600 to replace. Not to mention they insist I need the windshield with the rain sensor even though my SE doesn’t have automatic wipers ¯\(ツ)

again, not sure if sound and crack are related, just sharing my experience

It's really bizarre. I had a windshield crack on a new 2018 Focus after only a couple months, right at the bottom center and about 6" long, clearly a mounting/defect issue. Every time I hear the sound I expect to see a crack. At least most places will have full glass coverage if it does crack. I'm hoping for the ability to get some Saint-Gobain Sekurit replacement glass if needed instead of the Vitro glass. The sunroof glass is Saint-Gobain.

My car is in the dealer for this exact reason and customer care from corporate has been calling to give updates. When I find out the resolution I’ll be sure to pass it on
Any updates from customer care? I just got my Taos last week. I’m in Canada regularly -20 Celsius. Having this same noise. Taking it in to the dealer tomorrow…Looks like it’s very common.
