Over A Year So Far...

961 Views 23 Replies 12 Participants Last post by  3148saratoga
It's been a little over a year since I bought my 2022 Taos SE 4 Motion. I've hovered in this forum and occasionally posted, but wanted to share a little update. I have about 12k miles on Taos and haven't experienced anything major or had any real complaints... I see all the issues that pop up in this forum and I wonder if I just got lucky or these are things that I never paid attention to because they were not significant for me.

Either way, I still love my 2022 Taos SE and don't regret the choice I made. My only gripe... And I mean my only gripe, is that the 2022 Taos did not come with a hitch... While I don't tow I had to get an aftermarket hitch for my bike rack. I would have just gone the trunk mount route, but it's an e-bike and it's heavier.

That's it really... A pretty uneventful year of ownership.

We have the same MY and trim as you and we have had no issues, currently at 8k miles. It seems that everyone has throttle response issues with the DSG but I am not sure people realize the transmission learns your driving style. When we first got it the throttle response was so delayed it was almost scary making turns, but after a couple of days of flooring it the response improved a lot. Acceleration is instant now, the only thing I am concerned about is the head gasket.

So far great car!

I never had a real scary moment, but when I brought it in for the 10k service they did an ECC update for me, which I've noticed an improved response.
Thank you for sharing, and it is promising to hear there are positive experiences. This is my first non-Japanese vehicle, so I will admit I was expecting the worst (with reliability) while hoping for the best (being a 2nd year model). So far so good with over 6K. No issues with the throttle response with the DSG. I think it is a combination of me getting used to it, and also the transmission learning my driving style at the same time.

As for the hitch, I was thinking of getting one installed too as well as a front brush guard. The main reason is to protect the front and rear bumpers from someone accidentally hitting my bumpers, especially those with poor parallel parking skills or those Amazon/UPS/etc drivers, who double-park and then back into your car.

It’s more likely people with issues will be posting than people without issues. Knock on wood, no major problems myself at around 10k. Still love my Taos.

There are minor issues like dash rattles and buttons not illuminating and of course the lag which is supposed to be improved by a service update but still hasn’t reached a lot of cars. Sports mode seems to suffice for now.

We are at a year and a half and 35000 miles with our 22 Taos S. Replaced the rear brakes 1000 miles ago and now have the very first issue which is an airbag light. Trying to find time for the hour and a half trip to the nearest dealer. But still running strong.

I hope it’s just a glitch with the light and not the actual airbag malfunction. Good luck.
Well luckily I purchased the scan tool to do the rear brakes so I should be able to se what the computer says the issue is. I may be able to clear the code and the light if it was just a glitch.

Fingers crossed that it’s a code you can clear and you can forego the 1 1/2 hour ride.

Your rear brakes are under warranty. Get VW to reimburse you for this.

They had 32000 miles on them. Last I heard warranty was up to 24000

I would try anyway. We just had our's replaced today with 13,000 miles and the pads were almost gone.

Between the scan tool and the brake pads I have $60 in the rear brake pad replacement. I know of no auto manufacturers that cover brake pads over 30,000 miles never mind to 24000 like Volkswagen does with the extension they already have out there.

The original brake pads are a bad design and VW is well aware of it. I guess your wealthy enough not to worry about it!

Has nothing to do with wealth but plenty to d with picking my battles. Poor design or not they are out of warranty. Doesn't matter that my 16 Dodge Journey just rolled 130,000 and still has the original brakes. Being a former mechanic I have seen plenty of brakes worn out by 30000 miles and it is not an unreasonable number. I am diffing up my paperwork as I am supposed to have free tire rotations and was charged for one at the 20000 mile service. a refund for $22 brake pads ( the scan toll would not be covered by anything) is not worth the time to argue over when the mileage is out of coverage.

Good news
Plugged the scan tool in and pulled the airbag codes. Code was for a faulty drivers side sensor for the side airbag. A reset of the code cleared it and it did not return. The scan tool might of just saved me 3 hours of round trip driving and whatever time at the dealer took to see what was happening. As the code did not come right back means the sensor is working now. Possibly a Can-bus glitch in the communications or an intermittent sensor either of which would've meant a wasted drive this time with a bring it back if it happens again. Back to smooth sailing.

My Taos S 4Motion has 30,000! It has been doing amazing. The only thing that I have had replaced were the back break pads. They were expensive, mainly because labor costs at my local VW. Overall, I have not had any problems with my Taos. It drives very comfortably, I like driving it on Eco and Sport mode the most. When I know I’ll be stuck in traffic, I am always on Eco. When I know there’ll be no traffic, I go on Sport mode.
