I have a little orange triangle with an exclamation mark inside of it lit up on my instrument cluster. I Googled and it says it's the central warning light, and to read and follow text messages in the instrument cluster display. I checked everywhere and can't find the message I am supposed to read. I clicked all the buttons on the steering wheel and pulled up various menus and settings, but can't find the messages folder. I did see the messages folder on the radio but it pulls up something about the emergency warning system that goes out over the air on radio stations, and it was dated for a week ago. The message light just came on this morning.

Does anyone know how to find out what the indicator means besides going to the dealership?

Thanks in advance!

Sorry, I don't know the answer to the question. It is possible that the orange triangle with an exclamation mark is a phantom error that will clear after a restart, as mentioned in the information provided by members of the community. However, without further information it is difficult to determine the exact cause of the indicator.

Normally this will light up when you have another warning. For example, it will turn on if your washer fluid is low. You should have the exact warning message in your dashboard as you start the car.

Thanks for the help. I will try paying more attention next time I start the car. Every other car I have owned that had warning message symbols had a folder that you could scroll to that stored the messages.

When I took apart the center console (unhooked the engine start button and the brake release button) to vinyl wrap it, upon hooking everything back up and starting the car for the first time again, I also got the ! triangle. It went away after the next turn off/turn on of the vehicle when I guess the Taos recognized it was okay again…

You should see that when you cycle through screens in display or choose CAR button on radio and cycle through that
Thanks. I figured out how to find the messages for the car, but unfortunately it only displays current messages. The light didn't come back on today at lunch, or after work, and I was unable to figure out what caused it. Pretty frustrating considering I just got the car Wednesday night, and I only have 85 miles on it and it's already throwing warning lights.

Yes that's it. Thanks to everyones help today I was able to find the messages setting in the radio, but not what caused the light to come on in the first place.
Phantom errors that clear? That’s juts SOP.
Every 2 to 4 weeks I get a warning that the ACC can’t be used. After restart it’s okay.
once in a blue moon we get a huge scary warning that someone is about to crash into our Tiguan from the front. Ghost car? Happened on both Tiguans we owned.

When my sensors are blocked by the snow, it shows that as well. Once it's cleared, it goes away. Consider it as the car saying, "oh I think something's wrong." And it going away means, "I guess I'm alright now." I wish it will let us know after it goes away, though. It's always better to be in the loop of information.

I think my Taos is possessed, it does what ever it wants to when ever it wants to do it. The radio won't even come on some times, the seat heaters come on and off randomly, and so does the steering wheel heat. The gas pedal doesn't seem to actually control the speed of the car between 0-5MPH... It either takes off like a rocket, or waits up to 3 seconds before actually accelerating. I've almost been rear ended twice, almost been T-boned once, and I've almost rear ended like 5 people. Also the speedometer cluster changed displays by itself and won't change back to how I had it set, and the buttons on the steering wheel that change the center and 2 outside displays stop working and won't switch the display unless I shut the car off and re start it. One time I had the radio set to XM according to the display, but it was actually playing a local radio station. I'm REALLY regretting buying this car. I'm still on the first tank of gas, it doesn't even have 300 miles on it yet.

id bring it back to the dealership for your infotainment and the instrument cluster. But for the drivetrain, I assume you have the DSG, it does tend to be like that. Think of it as a computer controlled manual transmission. The clutch needs to engage/disengage at standstill and low speeds. I’ve driven the early versions of the VW DSGs. They were way worse. My Taos transmission got way better as I drive more.

may I ask, did you get any ota system updates and etc? Those may help. If you aren’t able to do it, go back to the dealer. They should be able to get that done.

I have not done any updates. I just got the car last wednesday, I would have figured any updates needed would've been done before they sold me the car...

Nope. Dealer prep does not include loading new software unless it’s a “do not drive this vehicle” recall. Most non-urgent recalls are done at service 1 or earlier if you have to bring it in for something else. Since the software is OTA, if your car didn’t ship with 0813, it will show up.

As for the DSG, anticipate the light change and lift your foot off brake a bit to start the transmission and have it “fight” you, and then when you want to go in a second your car will be ready. It makes sense if you grew up on Manual transmissions and knew how to launch smoothly. Unfortunately VW fails to tell customers how to drive a DSG and they get complaints which is why it should only be installed in sport models. Their 8-speed is a great auto transmissIon.
