I just got my Taos the other day . I have the basic free stuff on the app . I stumbled on subscriptions add ons (looking at the plus premium with internet radio and speech subscription for 4 bucks a month ) , so how does this work ? Do you need to purchase an active data plan or does it use your existing phone data ? I have AT&T . I see you can buy Verizon WiFi but not interested in that . Just curious how it all works and can you use phone data only . Thanks !

By default you use your phone data, the car has a Verizon Hotspot you can activate. I got Sirius on my own for the car, not through vw. The internet radio is for the car, you can always do Intent music with your phone

So I can buy the $4 dollar plan then since I hook my radio up to the car it will use my car phone data or I hotspot the car to my phone?

no you don't need a subscription if you're using your phone. all subscriptions are for the car stand-alone

Right but I want to try that Plus Premium Subscription for $4 bucks a month .It says a data plan is required. Does the car need stand alone data plan to do that or can you link your phone and use its data to run it ?

ok, taking a bit of a step back in the discussion. it seems like you're chasing something that may not line up. I looked at the vw site because I was curious car-net

the $4mo plan your chasing is an add on to other plans and you have to use the car data for $20/mo. also, that $4/mo plan is the same price as getting the other features you can get yearly.

I'm just using the free features that we have for 5 years. for me, there's no reason to pay for a hotspot in the car or internet radio as that can be done with the phone I already pay for. those are my considerations though.

Exactly . I just called and answered my question . You have to a data plan for your car to use the extra subscriptions add on . Verizon WiFi hotspot also gives the internet access for your car . To answer another question I read few times . Use up the Verizon trial and you can use them or switch it to TMobile car data plan . No AT&T . Thanks for everyone helping me and answering me .
