At dealer now for 10k service and they said yes you will be getting the 24IR update when they ran my vin. Im excited and really hope this helps with the turbo lag. Ill keep everyone posted.
I don't believe turbo lag is the issue. The issue is in the drive by wire throttle input/output. It might seem like turbo lag but a turbo will never be spooled and ready to go from a dead stop on these vehicles.
Picking mine up tomorrow after finally getting the update.

The wife's Q3 went in for service today and when I was picking her up, I hopped next door to VW service and talked to a very nice man (one of the techs).
He's aware of the ECU updates for the Taos but they don't show up (yet) for most of them. If you get an oil change and they do the software updates at the same time, you're lucky. He checked my VIN while I was there, and if I took it in for an oil change that's all they would do. There is no open campaign for my VIN so they would not be able to do it.

I bumped into my salesman! He bought a Taos too. He has not gotten the update yet either, despite getting the evap system check engine light. He loves it though.
So basically, it's a case of wait for the update to be available for your VIN as far as I can tell.

Ironically, the Q3 was in for software updates. :)

I tend to agree with this... I had a 6 speed DSG in Alltrack that was buttery smooth... the update smooth the Taos out, but engine seems to behave similar so think it was a transmission mapping issue... actually engine still jumpy at times, but DSG smooth out drivability.

I'm at the dealership as I write this receiving the update and have the rear brake checked.

I'm at 5200km. I took appointment for the update after checking with them if it was available for my car. First time I have to get a car update lol. Been told it's free of charge (as it should be) and part of a recall campaign (without being recalled 😂).

I'm not sure sure I liked the answer of the lady (not related of her being a lady at all) about the rear brake dust being "normal" on vw that you should expect to change rear brake twice as much as front.

I don't like being speaked to like in a dumbass.
I normally do all my maintenance myself (oil, brake and easy stuff) and I have a job where I have to use mechanical skillset. So I'm not the kind of owner that you can bullshit.

I'm in Quebec, QC, Canada.

Will report back about the update once I get home. I did change the throttle behavior as soon as we took ownership I hope I will feel the difference.

So I drove it for 30 minutes after the update. Tried to go on streets with lots of STOP sign. It does seems better but again I did change the throttle behavior at the beginning. I will have to check again with carista if the behavior of the throttle as reseted to default.

There's improvement in the lag while driving, slowing (lifting foot of the throttle) and accelerating back. But it's kind of a normal feeling for a turbo compressed engine

Overall satisfied.

As for the brake I've been told told they are in brand new condition at 12mm. Not a bad news but I can't live with that much dust on wheel, it looks like an unmaintained vehicle.

I will swap the pad after the winter for something with ceramic compound. I'm considering these option :
  • raybestos element3 hybrid
  • DFC 5000 euro
  • upcoming power stop hopefully
  • something else I don't know for German car (first euro car ever, been at Honda all my driving life)
10 minutes after leaving the dealer I received a warning message on the dash that the front assist and lane assist wasn't working. I sweared at the f*cking dealer for 5 minutes, it never happened before I was fcking angry and wanted to go back. But I parked somewhere, googled it, cleared the front VW emblem, restarted the car and chilled on after that. 😂 You learn everyday they say.

DFC 5000 should be a good choice, I have the DFC 3000 and they're a significant upgrade and about $30 w/ the hardware kit at rockauto.com. My rears were at 5mm though w/ only 15k miles, and I don't drive the car hard at all :(

Quick report. Got the 24iR update today. Excellent improvement. It does not overwrite any Carista settings that I could tell. But it wasn't even so much as off the lot when I realized that the direct throttle which helped so much before update was a bit of a drawback, a hair trigger that was now hard to modulate. Got home, kept the rest of my Carista mods unchanged including my beloved Dynamic Steering, but returned the throttle to Gradual, Time Delay, and...wait for it....the 24iR setting is buttery smooth and lively with the original gradual throttle map. Props to the Dub-meisters and a helpful dealer service desk.

Another +1 for the 24IR update. Bought a used 2022 Taos SEL 4motion in November. Took it in to Sheehy VW of Hagerstown for its 1year/10k Service today (Only has 5700 miles on it, in service date was Jan 2022). Asked for the 24IR software update to be done if available and was. Very pleased, car is even smoother accelerating and shifting even compared to just the Carista adjustment. At this point I’m debating whether to change it back to Gradual from Direct in Carista since that was VW’s intention.

Yupper, our love for our '22 Kings Red SE AWD is mutliplied by the 24iR update. Kept Dynamic Steering but returned to Gradual on the throttle setting and the car is better than ever. The Carista Direct Throttle on top of the 24iR change wasn't helpful, made it twitchy in a new way. Kudos to the dealer and the folks who programmed the fix. I am newly interested in the techical difference between the ECU reset and the OBD2 settings...and how they are so different that the big reflash left the Carista settings untouched....but that is for new thread, LOL.

After switching the pedal to Direct, there is a huge improvement. Enough of an improvement that I won’t trade it in or sell it outright. In some way I was hoping it wouldn’t help and I would trade it in on an Elantra N.
So I emailed ecs tuning about carista…. And I have a Taos awd 2022… he said that the one they sell would not work for my model… even tho I see all you guys say that you use yours… what am I missing lol

Just got back from the dealer
22 awd Highline. May22 production. No carista.
Observation from the drive back home.
1) take off jerk is much reduced. I used to take off very easy on the throttle and when the clutch engaged, there's a drop in rpm and a jerk, that's pretty much gone now.
2)shift at higher rpm.
In D mode. 2nd to 3rd now shift at around 2500rpm. Before update it would shift early and rpm drop to 1400rpm and no torque (where the lag comes in) Now it keeps at a sweet 1700-2500 at city speed making use of the peak torque all the time.

Will see how the fuel consumption goes.
