I'm seeing several posts on the VW Taos FB groups about owners that have recently received dealership onsite software upgrades that appear to eliminate - or greatly improve - the acceleration from start 'lag' that so many owners seem to be complaining about - and am assuming this is only for the AWD models, but can't get anyone to respond to my requests for clarification.

Comments also indicate one has to be somewhat assertive with the dealership in order to get the upgrade, which apparently isn't initially volunteered, and does not appear as a formal recall ...

So I wondered what experiences folks have had on this forum in that regard (I'm based in Virginia) ...?

I think in some ways it depends on your relationship with the service dept. For me, a text to my advisor, confirmed, installed 48 hours later. MY understanding, and cannot confirm, it is for all 1.5 engines including Jetta. But I cannot swear to it being FWD as well as AWD. Someone else will have to confirm that.

Personaly, if it takes any persuading, I would go elsewhere. But that is just me.

Are you questioning whether there is an update, or if the update is for the AWD only? There's a least 2-3 comprehensive threads here regarding this topic. As BobU has said above, the update covers most 1.5t engines, whether they be Jetta or Taos. I'm assuming you have a 2022 model year correct? It's simple. The Service Advisor runs your VIN in ELSA. This will indicate whether or not the update is available. The dealership does not get to pick and choose who gets the update. There is no benefit to deny someone. And the dealership loses out on free money if they deny you. Also, not only is there the 24IR update, there is an ECU and Transmission update as well.

I'm aware of some past dated threads and have been apprehensive about posting this question for that very reason - but yes, from what I gather from the FB threads this seems to be a very recent update (within the last couple of weeks or so), which I do not think is covered by those threads, and I am specifically trying to identify if this update is applicable to FWD owners as it seems to be primarily AWD owners that have been complaining - I own a 2022 SE FWD.

I think your best bet would be to visit your VW dealer and have them run the VIN while you are there... as noted above, they have all the info in front of them once VIN run and your standing there... in my experience they took care of it right away. Not sure what applies to FWD Taos, but look forward to hearing what you may find out.

Every VW dealer is different for sure... I actually drive 45 minutes to my VW dealer even though there is one 15 minutes away. Just a better dealer that actually cars about the customer... I would not buy a bag of chips in the vending machine at my local VW dealer ;) close by... just awful people.

I wonder if the AWD w/ the 7AT are getting priority for this update over the FWD w/ the 8AT since those seem to have more complaints (at least from the sample size on this forum)??
Has anyone w/ a FWD w/8AT had this done, or had the dealer tell them that they eligible for the update??

Here is a link to a post in VWVortex. There's a person in Canada with a Jetta, who had the 24IR done. So this would somewhat confirm it's also for the FWD models.

The 2018 Tiguan had the same issue, as it was the first model with the 2.0 “B-cycle” engine. A software update 18 months later made a big difference. But it still wasn’t as good as the 2019.5 cars (and later) that came from the factory working correctly.

The acceleration/throttle delay/lag issue is part of the ECU update which fixed the stop/shutdown issue, no?

I remember when I had that update installed a while ago for my AWD it made a bit of difference but not a lot. Also following this thread and will check with dealer.

The infortainment software is infotainment software. This is an ECU reprogramming for engine, tnransmission. It will be on you receipt from the dealer. Or if you have a VAGcom you can see. Unsure if Carista would say anything, but I think not.

Most important clue - does it drive any different?????

Well here's my update as initiator of this thread - took my car in for state inspection at my local VW shop (Richmond Va), and as I was being booked in was told there were a couple of software updates that my VIN had triggered - my heart leapt as she confirmed it was indeed the update everyone has been talking about on forums for the last couple of months.

So I'm pleased to say I've just received the 24iR update (for my 2022 Taos SE FWD). The lag on mine as a FWD wasn't nearly as bad as the 4 Motion owners report (unless I was just more tolerant and not as aggressive on the throttle - also possible) - but I can honestly say that nevertheless the car does appear to accelerate more smoothly than it did previously.

I continue to be delighted with my Taos - and very much hope to enjoy driving it even more now that I know the engine will be running at optimal performance. Hope it doesn't alter the MPG figures we've all been getting ... maybe that's something worth reporting on over the next few months as we all get our cars' software updated...?

Nice to hear, I'm in Las Vegas right now, may go by a dealer here and see what they say after running my VIN, maybe get lucky :)

SEL 4 Motion here… I went to dealer and they did a vin verification. Unfortunately 24HH was the last ECU update available for me and 24IR did not come up.
The dealer told me they are unable to do any updates that don’t come up on the vin verification and they didn’t have any more information available for me.
Doesn’t seem like there’s anything I can do but wait.

Another +1 for the 24IR update. Bought a used 2022 Taos SEL 4motion in November. Took it in to Sheehy VW of Hagerstown for its 1year/10k Service today (Only has 5700 miles on it, in service date was Jan 2022). Asked for the 24IR software update to be done if available and was. Very pleased, car is smoother accelerating and shifting even compared to just the Carista adjustment. At this point I’m debating whether to change it back to Gradual from Direct in Carista since that was VW’s intention.

There is a Technical Service Bulletin (2068071/3 attached) that covers all 2022 Taos and Jettas with the 1.5l engine regardless of VIN or transmission. you get the update if your car throughs certain DTC codes. Do not know if they are now being told to update all cars that come in.
