Welcome to Taos ownership! I wouldn’t worry about the Consumer Reports opinion. I’ve had my Taos since new July ‘21 and am still really enjoying it and happy with my purchase choice. 10 inches of snow last night and it was great to drive on unplowed roads this morning. Fun! I’m sure the snow tires help. No concerns with spinning, loss of contro, cornering or stopping. The amount of features and settings do take some time set up to personal preference, you’ll get there!

Thanks so much for the encouragement! Sounds like you had a very good time in the snow!

Hi
Got a Taos for my wife and I love it. Perfect size for the City but a surprising amount of room inside for weekend road trips. Also great on Gas ! Wish they made a GTI Taos though.

i was super surprised with the amount of room inside. I have 2 bloodhounds and really needed some space but didn’t want a big SUV because I work downtown and park in a big parking garage. So far 358 miles into it I love it! Gonna let the new smell die down before the hounds get in lol!

I used to stick by Consumer Reports recommendations, which was how I ended up with Subaru. I ended up taking a chance with VW since the Taos had checked off the majority of requirements and was on par or an upgrade to the Subaru I had.

As you can see on the forums here, there are many owners, who have positive experience with the Taos and are even long-time VW owners, which is very encouraging! I think it is easier to complain when something goes wrong than it is to praise when something goes right, so you'll likely see more complaints online as a result. I'd rather listen to the long-time VW owners than some magazine, who does their tests for a few weeks/months and then provide their final conclusion.

If it makes you feel any better, Edmunds seems to like the Taos placing it above the Mazda CX-30 (one of my candidates) and also Subaru.

Congratulations on the Taos. The Taos is my 3rd Volkswagen ever and my 4th car to ever own. I have the S trim with the ID.Drive package and it is a great addition to the S trim. I have had my Taos for 16 months, im at about 26k miles and my Taos has never had any issues nor recalls or replacement of pieces. I want to lift my Taos.

CR hates VW. If they had their way everybody would drive an Accord or Camry. No thanks.
Some of the crap people complain about in consumer reports. The steering wheel is not fat enough my old car had a fat steering wheel I don't like this car it's a lemon blah blah blah or I have to reach too far to get the seat adjustment lever I don't like it the car is a lemon. And a fat steering wheel complaint counts as much a negative as my transmission fell out when I went over a railroad track.

100% great owner experience since 2/22. I think that, in general, the squeaky wheel gets the grease in terms of Internet discussion. Whatever issues bugged the first run delivery cars (mostly seems to have been component supplier quality control problems), the Taos is the best engineered car in the category. Our ownership experience has exceeded expectations.

Yea I done a bit of research on this car and was concerned by the comments. So I went and had a test drive on a 2023 model and blown away about how great a little SUV it was.
