Hi All

I've searched and read what I can find on this and have the basics down but still have a few questions I'm hoping to get answers on...
Just got in the car and the screen said Software Update and something about it being a 3 step process

I hit OK, (or whatever), and then hit download.

My first question is.... *Do I keep the car running while it's downloading ??? Obviously if you shut it off the screen goes Black so you cant see the progress of the download.
(In this case i let it run since i was at home and car was in driveway. I went inside and checked it once in a while, (probably took @ 1/2 hour to download)

When it got to the end of the download it said something like, will install update when ignition is off. I shut it off and screen went Black
So my second question is.... How do you know whats going on once you shut it off and screen goes Black ??? What if you have to use the car during this time, can you ?

My last question is... How do I even know what the update was, if it got installed, and where do you check to see if you need an update ?

I did read the other Threads and I did check CarNet and found this (which makes no sense because after it downloaded the update it clearly said "will install update when car is off" . So I shut it off and as said the screen goes Black, I assumed I was done ? Last Pic is the notice I got across the screen when I started it this morning

You can drive while it’s downloading. Once it’s downloaded, it’ll prompt to install. Only do so when you get home or work, you won’t be able to use your vehicle for about 30 min or so

Thanks Mafia  (for the record my last name is CARUSO, LOL.....

I guess I missed a step because I just went back out and started it back up and went into System Info and got these three Screens

I clicked Update Software
Then got the second screen, --> (Download Complete, Installation possible when ignition is switched off)
I Shut it off and then got the third screen, I clicked Start and BAM screen went Black Again. I assume it's currently downloading ??? Would be nice if it showed you that...

WOO HOO it worked, went from Software 809 to 813. Thanks Again Mafia (y)

So when you get the Message for available new Software you simply hit download
If you shut the car the Software download stops (GOOD TO KNOW)
Next time you start the car the Software download will continue (GOOD TO KNOW)
It may take several trips for the download to complete (GOOD TO KNOW)
You can also cancel the download by hitting cancel and it will remind you each time you re-start the car (GOOD TO KNOW)
Once the new software is downloaded and you shut the car off you will be prompted to start the install (THIS DIDNT ORIGINALLY HAPPEN FOR ME, MAYBE I SHUT IT TO QUICKLY ?)

and now I know.......

If anyone's interested I also found exactly what mafia said here

Software Download
For electric vehicles, the download will occur automatically, in the background, while the vehicle is in operation.
For all other vehicles, you will need to initiate the download by tapping “Download” when prompted. You may safely drive the vehicle while the download takes place in the background. Turning off the ignition will automatically pause the download, but the download will continue automatically the next time you start your vehicle. Therefore, it may take several vehicle trips for the download to finish. To postpone the download, you can simply tap “Cancel.” You will be prompted again to tap “Download” each time you start your vehicle. You can also visit your dealership for an in-person software update.

Software Installation
IMPORTANT:
Please do not drive the vehicle during installation as VW Car-Net services and emergency response systems will be inactive.
Once the software download completes, your vehicle is ready for the installation to begin. As soon as you turn your ignition off, your infotainment screen will prompt you to tap “Start” to begin installation. Once the installation begins, you can then leave and lock your vehicle. Installation time will vary based on the size of the update. The average installation will take approximately 15 minutes. Once the installation is complete, you will receive an in-vehicle prompt when you next start your vehicle.
To postpone the installation to a more convenient time, tap “Cancel.”
NOTE: Your vehicle needs to meet certain conditions for the update to work. The green light on the 3-button module in your overhead console must be on and your vehicle needs to be in a location with sufficient network connectivity. If your software update cannot run over the air, please visit your local Volkswagen Dealer who can update the software in person.

Does anyone know what the latest SW was for? After mine was completed the car (SE FWD) seemed to run better, i.e. some of the prior acceleration lags seemed to disappear. Maybe just my imagination, hopefully not.

That's great to hear. When I complained to the dealer a month or so ago he said they had similar problems with other models in the past and that a SW update would likely be coming to fix it. I guess he was right.

Oops, I forgot to mention I was not receiving any updates at all. I used the check up tool entered my VIN and was informed there was an update available. I took my vehicle to the dealer
who checked and said they had to do something to where it would receive updates. The next morning my infotaiment system informed me there was one available. I downloaded it on way to work.
Parked my car it asked to install. After work infotaiment said software was updated. I'm curious about what dealer had to do to allow my vehicle to receive updates.

I saw that as well. I had my car in for an axle fix and they informed me there was another update which they did on 3/8. I mentioned the throttle improvement from the previous update and they just smiled. Not sure what they think, either I'm imagining things or the update was more than infotainment and VW can't admit it. Not that they ever hidden things before.😏

to many people seem to agree they felt a noticable difference after the update for it NOT to be. I sure did, but hey if its in my head and the car now drives different and better I'm ok with that too.
Wouldn't be the first time my head has played games on me, LOL....

How do you get to this screen? I have a similar style radio in my Jetta that has been downloading an update for over a week. I’m thinking it’s not actually downloading at all. I haven’t been able to find this screen at all.

I know my car doesn't have any updates, that you check in your the car on screen, (i checked yesterday). Plus they notify you if there is. But for the record that link I gave WILL tell you if there is a software update

How will I know when an OTA software update is available?
Similar to your computer or smartphone, any newly available software upgrade will be announced through an in-vehicle notification on your infotainment screen. For Car-Net subscribers, you will also receive an in-app notification when a software upgrade is available. You may also receive a mailer notifying you of the specific software update available for your vehicle.
If you’re unsure if your vehicle qualifies for a software update or have not received a notification because you are not registered for Car-Net, we have a look-up tool available. Simply enter your vehicle identification number (VIN) to view any open campaigns, including software updates available, and contact your dealer for next steps.

Interesting. I stand corrected. The recalls will show you software updates as well. And does not show one for me, but the dealer said available as of Nov 10th and since I knew about it, will do it for me Tuesday.

Its funny, I remember reading others saying they got dealer updates that are not shown needed a while back. Then again right in this original thread I once thought my original over the air update fixed the jerky starts. Soon afterwards it was back to the jerky starts so what do i know, LOL...

I have adjusted my foot to eliminate the jerky starts probably 80 to 90% of the times but once in a while OMG.. Do you think you could have one of the original Taos's that needed this update

Campaign Number 21V615000, states that up to 5,092 affected vehicles may have engine control unit (ECU) software that can lead to a stalling issue when the SUV is stopped.

Lots of complaints on them but to be honest I love mine and it does everything I expect of it. Almost all my driving is long highway trips, Plus I have a fun car with "a little more HP" for my wild side, and i do get wild in it everytime I drive it LOL...
