Hi,

I am going soon on a road trip to the US.
I'll be using a T-mobile (US) SIM card. The canadian Taos lacks car-net, my question for the forum is:

Is it possible to use a usb SIM-dongle to activate the Taos system as a hotspot? Or is it better just to get an external hotspot and use it with the SIM?

I’ve never heard of doing that.
I would also suggest staying away from trying to use the car-net hotspot as it can cause issues with wireless CarPlay if you use that.

External hotspot device or a personal hotspot or personal hotspot feature on iPhone or android using usa sim would be simpler.

Agreed. Might want to check your cellphone plan and see if you already have or can add the hotspot option on your phone and if it covers data across the boarder.

If that's not an option, an external hotspot would be my second choice. Enjoy the trip!

Thx for the advice.
In Canada we are hijacked by the telecom industry and the CRTC. They offer bad and expensive service (sounds like the recent Rogers mega outage?). For example, we canadians don't have access to make free calls to North America (US and Mexico). A US citizen can visit Canada using their own SIM and plan. Mexican citizens (Telcel for example) can visit Canada and use the same SIM and service they already pay for. We canadians have to pay 12 CAD per day to be able to use our service in the US. If we visit Mexico we have to pay 15 CAD per day. Same thing for cable and satellite TV. A landline is around 18 CAD per month, lol. So yes, it is not an option!

I will get a T-mobile SIM and will stick to that.
