I have a SE AWD Taos that was made last July. I purchased the car in early Oct. (of this year) . Right from the start, I had problems with Car Net not being able to remote start, lock/unlock doors etc. This, I believe, was the result of low signal strength on my cell phone and the location of my car relative to my house. The bed room, living room are directly over the garage and when I would try to do any type of remote functions, Car Net sat there and laughed at me. However, I was able to do some of the functions intermittently with the garage door open. I soon gave up on the remote functions. I did purchase the Safe and Secure option. That did not work all the time with the green light only lit at certain locations. With the help of VDW Custome Support, I was able to get a green light all of the time.
Today, in Central Wisconsin, with all of the wind, snow, and cold, I decided to give the Car Net Remote a try. Note that I was in a restaurant at the time. The remote functions worked perfectly. I can not explain the reason for everything working but it surely happened at the time when needed the most. Surely a surprise.:):):)

Examples of green light is not working could be the carnet module requiring a special reset or it could indicate dealer never activated carnet for the customer. Curious how customer service helped you.

As for the remote start not functioning for you, you are correct in poor signal string being one of the causes. At the restaurant you likely had better signal strength without the garage roof over your car.

One thing to note, your car has its own cellular connection used for carnet communication (this is separate from the car hotspot subscription). If the car’s own cellular connection is poor it doesn’t matter if your cell phone has a good connection, carnet still won’t function.

There may also be other reasons remote start won’t work, like if the low fuel indicator is on.
