Was surprised by the mpg of my Taos while doing a chunk of highway driving today. From update NY to central NJ a little over 200 miles and still had half a tank. Hovered around 40-41 mpg on the highway going up to 43 for a decent amount of time. Was surprised because the AWD was advertised as only getting 32 mpg highway.

I can squeeze 46 MPG (on the display) out of my 2021 GTI on the highway over a 30 mile trip. I've surpassed 50 in the Taos several times. What I've found is the display number is about 2 MPG optimistic to actual.

Wow nice! I imagine that driving style plays a part. I guess I'm just amazed compared to my 2007 Jetta that didn't get amazing mpg, well, maybe for the time it did. I bought it second hand, but not much of a car person so I just maintained it and then let it run until maintance and repairs didn't make sense.

Upstate to NJ is slightly downhill overall, though enough ups and downs it likely doesn’t matter too much. But that computer is not always accurate either. The true test is to fill up before and after a trip

that said, the Jetta is rated at 39 and I get in the min to high 40s on the highway when traffic is light enough I can use ACC most of the time.

Highway test cycle averages 48mph with some acceleration and deceleration over a 12 minute period. If you are cruising at 65 without much braking over 3 hours, you will do much better.

On the Taos, I also imagine speed matters. The aerodynamic hit really kicks in every MPH over 60 so depending on the road, YMMV. Lived around there as a kid where the limit was all 55 but don’t know what it is these days.

Just returned from a 1000 mile round trip to the NC shore and was pleasantly surprised with the fuel economy. I got a total of 521 miles on the tank of fuel on the way down and driving around once there. The fuel light didn't even come on at that point. Was in a bit of a hurry to get back and hit 480 before the fuel warning light came on. 40mpg on the way down and 36mpg on the way back per the computer. Didn't bother calculating it and have a feeling the computer might be a little optimistic but I'm satisfied. Now, just need to get this thing coded for Direct throttle.
