I’m curious if any Taos owners have noticed a subtle rattling sound coming from under the car at very light accelerating from a dead stop. Happens in reverse also.

I don’t know where exactly the sound is coming from but feel it may be occurring when the turbo spins up. It’s a little inconsistent to reproduce and not that loud so maybe others haven’t noticed it. I have a Taos 4 motion SEL.

I read in the post below someone mention a rattle happening in their MK6 GTI related to the Turbo wastegate and wondering if this might be connected.

Please let me know if you’ve experienced this in your Taos, what trim yours is, and if you have any ideas on the cause or fix. Thanks!

Could it be coming from the exhaust? Not like something loose but maybe a noise the exhaust gases make going through a muffler or pipe?
Not sure if it's coming from the exhaust. Probably need another passenger to pinpoint better location.

I made this video to illustrate what the rattling sounds like:
You have to turn your computer volume up quite a bit to really hear.
The rattling is most pronounced around the 3 second mark, then again each time I give a boost of acceleration at 9, 14 and 18 seconds.

It depends on the location. Underneath the floor, by the wheel wells, the steering column,by the firewall? By the doors? You need to pinpoint the location. I had rattling on my car that would happen underline acceleration was slightly turning the steering wheel mostly going into roundabouts. Been waiting for months on the parts to come in. Turns out it was a CV axle and wheel bearing. I’m still in my rental car

Thanks @CaptainKirk1a - It's hard to pinpoint as the rattle only occurs when the car is in motion. If I give gas in neutral/park it doesn't occur. I will see if I can have another passenger in the car with me try to figure out where it's coming from, but if it's coming from the engine compartment as I expect, i'm not sure how easy it will be to figure it out because the other passenger can't be looking under the hood while the cars moving. I will say that the issue occurs when accelerating in a straight line or in a turn. I noticed it also happens when accelerating at higher speeds but I didn't notice it before because the overall noise level drowns out the rattle at that point.

Well I know that there’s a lot of issues with the CV axles and the wheel bearings when you’re driving and you hear it making noise try putting your head towards the center of the car I guess as close as you can get to the radio. And try to re-create the sound you should be able to pinpoint it from there I know that there is a really big shortage on the wheel bearings and CV axles for the taos so my money would be that. Find a safe place to re-create the Sound. Is it more of a tapping sound? A knocking sound a grinding sound a roaring sound? Be as specific as he can because just basing stuff on a sound and a location will solve about 95% of the problems.

Thanks @CaptainKirk1a - Appreciate the tips! And good to know about the wheel bearings and CV axles.
It's actually more of a knocking sound I think.
You can hear it in this video I created when i reproduced the issue.... starting right between 3-4seconds.
Just turn the volume way up on your speakers:)

On my Alltrack, I would get a buzzing sound at 2500 rpm under acceleration only, worse uphill.

Turned out that they had failed to attach a bolt in Mexico during assembly, but the buzzing only happened when the engine was under resistance load, which causes the engine to rotate on its mount.

The dealer attached the missing bolt, and the buss was gone.

“For want of a nail, the battle was lost.”

I would have the dealer do a visual inspection of the the underside. It’s actually SOP for California VW dealers to do a visual inspection after 30 days of ownership to look for any issues like that.

Thanks @CorradoG60 - that’s useful feedback. My rattling also only happens under resistance load. I’ll take it in to dealer to see if they can do a visual inspection.
Make sure you demonstrate it for them and relay the solution I had. The dealer was afraid they had to dismantle the dash and were relieved to find it was simply a missing bolt. I drove the car for 2 years like that before I was annoyed enough to find the issue…

Yes!! I hear it too in my Taos and it’s annoying because it’s not a prominent sound that everyone in the car can hear but as the driver I can hear it. I’ve tried to have someone else listen to it and they say it’s just in my head 😆 What is that sound???

Yes I have the same problem with my car the dash rattles constantly it’s been back and forth to the delearship very unhappy with this car only 4K miles on it so far 1st week it broke down and needed a fuel pump then needed a fuel line and the brakes make an annoying noise I hate my Taos I’m I alone? Everyone feel the same way?

Sounds like a feature, not a bug… ouch.
Ugg, i'm beginning to think the Taos was really rushed. It's not just this strange noise when accelerating... it's also all the internal rattling noises described here (Is anyone else having annoying interior dash rattles?). It feels like the speaker in the middle above the dash is not fitted properly, the section with buttons for sliding window up and down doesn't fit properly, the dash itself is loose. I don't like to complain too much since i love the concept of the car as a whole and love the gas mileage, but if I had to choose again, maybe I would have waited for the Tiguan 2022. With the supply chain issues, the risk is just so high. If something happens you may not get your car back from the dealership for months...

I've been having problems with the breaks since early after I bought it. The dealership treats me like I'm crazy.

Hello guys! I own a 2022 Taos Highline in Brazil with ~2k miles. My car has presented a noise/rattle very similar to @Ryan's video. It happens when release the gas pedal, and it's even worse when slightly turning right. I've already took the car to the dealership but no luck. They made a visual inspection and said everything was ok. But the noise is still there, some days more audible than others. Did you find a solution? I suspect it's related to the turbo wastegate, since I noticed a clearance at its spindle.

This video shows the rattle, starting at 0:08, after accelerating and releasing the pedal.
