I'll be a dork and reply to my own thread. I was able to test out my winter set this morning in the Denver area. The combo of extra weight for the AWD system, the AWD system itself and snow tires combined to be pretty impressive when pushing the car on hill starts, turns and braking. I'm sure other AWD set ups with snow tires result in something similar, but it's the most secure I've ever felt. The only improvement would be in a car or wagon with a lower center of gravity. Before this experience, the best snow car I ever had was a 2020 A4 Quattro, which weighed almost as much as the Taos.

Nice!
I don't care how expensive your all seasons are - they still won't be nearly as good as a decent set of winter tires. Even when it is just really cold with no snow.
Lower center of gravity typically comes with lower ground clearance which is not good when the depth of snow exceeds that (ask me how I know, lol).

I was very surprised how well the factory tires did in snow last time i was up in the mountains and then when I left it was -8 degrees and a nor'easter hit and I think it was the worse deepest snow i ever drove in. Cause i left at 4am and they hadnt plowed or sanded yet. Then the front wheels filled with snow on the throughway and the car was shaking so got dam bad i had to keep pulling over and cleaning the snow from between the spokes, LOL

I could really use snow tires but after the sh!t show with the flat i got and when i used the spare THEY GIVE YOU, it takes ever system out on the car and you can hear the transmission and rear freaking out. i wouldnt want to run anything but the original size

Haha, yeah I remember that post. That's why they have a mileage limit for running on the spare. Not because it will wear out, but because the car really doesn't like it!
That's a result of having mismatched sizes though. As long as you are running 4 winter tires of the same size and reasonably close to stock it's fine. My winter tires are around 0.4% difference in diameter from stock if I remember correctly.
