They're definitely illuminated on mine. Faulty switch, wiring, or connection I would think.
My driver window switch automatically puts the windows back down about 20% of the time when trying to do an auto close. The build quality and feel of the switch is worse than a Kia.

Sounds like the pinch protection kicking in.
There's a procedure for resetting the auto up/down stuff in the manual somewhere. Worth trying that.
Might be as simple as running the window fully open then fully closing again manually (first step of the switch) and holding the switch for a few seconds extra each time. I think that used to be the way to do it anyway.

Power On the vehicle.
Push and hold the DOWN on the window switch, continue to hold it down the whole time. When it fully rolls down, continue holding for 3 seconds. Do the same for UP. Repeat for each window

The cost cutting is everywhere on current VWs - thank you Dieselgate
Still a great car on road trips but I do wish memory seats were an option like on the Atlas, Jetta and Tiguan. Plus everything else mentioned above.

I adore my '23 Taos SEL, I give it an A-, I would give it an A+ if:
  • mirror mounted turn signals (they do this in other market Taos's)
  • memory driver seat
  • footwell lighting and all 4 window switch illuminated
  • power tailgate
  • keyless entry version without the black button (Jetta style)
  • glove box illuminated
