Ok. Just checked dipstick with paper towel and no sign of green or blue. Honey colored.
Drove to dealer thinking maybe changed with wrong oil??
Checked a Taos with 2500 miles. No green or blue but browner.
Bought a fresh quart. No brown. Grayish with green tint.
Dealer thinks the tint goes away after running a bit.
Anyone seeing green or blue in oil with 1000 or more miles on it?

what a learning curve!!

I have a few hundred miles since I changed the oil and it looks honey colored on paper towel too. I used genuine VW from ECS Tuning.
The blue/green seems much more obvious when you're pouring it - maybe more reflective than an actual dye.
I put some oil fresh out of the bottle on some paper towel too and it definitely looks different. Paler, and you can see its a bit greenish.
The honey color from the dipstick looks a little darker and is likely from combustion products - the oil is on its way to becoming black!
So I think the tint remains but gets swamped by the oil going brown/black.

I haven't found the oil filter available anywhere yet, but I'm assuming it's the same one as a 1.4l Jetta. I need to crawl underneath and get the part number off it I guess.
Note it also takes the VW 508.00 / 509.00 0W-20 oil, which should be available on your favorite VW parts website.
it’s just Mobil 1 with their label

It’s always a good idea to change the first one sooner
In the days of low grade motor oils and loose tolerances this was true. break in periods were the norm 40 years ago but production methods and oil quality have vastly improved since then. Driving style and vehicle usage have more impact on oil changes. A vehicle that is run continuously needs fewer oil changes by mileage than Grandmas car that goes 1 mile to the supermarket or church and sits the rest of the time.

Yeah but there’s still more metal shaving that will be in the oil upon initial, break-in, that’s why it’s a good idea to change the first one sooner than the rest

There are a lot fewer shavings than in the past due to better production practices. The filters have also improved over the decades. The Taos is our third vehicle with the 10000 mile oil change interval and we have had no issues. now my 86 Dodge D150 changes its own oil and I empty the pan and throw a new filter on every 10000 miles. The old slant six is just about broken in at 515000 miles. My 76 Motor home get an oil change 1 time a year no matter how many miles the old 440 sees. Most of the time it is under 3000.
