I thought this point in the owners manual was interesting....

Never knew about increased Electro waves caused by a cell phone when inside a car. Anyone have any more info on this and how bad the exposure is?

And is there any information out there about connecting ones cell phone to the exterior antenna? Not sure how that would work with an iphone.

I wonder if they mean using the car-net hotspot where you can add the car to your Verizon cell plan (like adding a tablet) and then have your car create a wifi hotspot that you could connect to (which would use the cars exterior antenna).

I'm not a big expert on EM radiation (more of a magnetic fields guy!), but basically I think the signal from your phone could bounce around the interior a bit because the car is a really bad Faraday Cage. And since the signal may be partially blocked (in a directional manner too - maybe the nearest cell tower is directly in line with the C pillar) the phone may have to boost its signal to maintain a good connection. I read this as a CYA kind of thing that yes, your phone may be emitting more EM radiation than if it was outside the car. I think there are better things to worry about though!
I think you are correct - if you use the Verizon hotspot and set up your phone for wifi calling then that should all go through the car antenna. The phone would not need to connect to a tower at all.
BTW sorry I took 16 days to get around to replying. :)
