I have a brand new 2022 Taos SE AWD in July 22. When I first start to put my foot down on the gas pedal, there is a slight surge of power. However, if I am careful and learn how to "feather" my start much as I would a manual shift car, I have no problems. I guess that in time I will learn exactly how to drive this car. Other than that, the car is wonderful. My concern at the moment is the choice of a driving mode selector to help minimize this surge of power, slight as it may be. Should I enable ECO, SPORT, or NORMAL mode.

theres lots of conversations on the forum about this topic of what to expect from a DSG transmission to using carista to make adjustments. you might want to read through those to see how they might answer this question.

but in short, a turbo car often = surge of power. a DSG only makes that more apparent than an automatic transimission.

Did not want to use carista. Just wanted to select a driving mode that would minimize power surge. A lot of the surge might be able to minimized by my foot alone. Read most of the articles on the forum on this but mostly are complaints about the car or using carista. Have no complaints per se.

Last time I tested things out I found ECO to be a little smoother taking off than NORMAL, and I didn't really notice much difference otherwise.
The only thing that annoyed me with ECO mode is that if you turned off the auto start/stop, ECO enabled it again (but you could still turn it off again).

Surging from stop is a common problem with many models of VW's going back at least 2 decades. My 2002 1.8 Passat did it as did my 2019 1.4 Sportwagen, 2021 VW GTI Autobahn and now my 2022 Taos SE 2 wheel drive. You get use to it. I view it as a VW trait.

This was my first vehicle with a dual clutch transmission. Whole different feel than what I was use to. Seems to have gotten smoother as I have put more miles on it. Enjoy your taos it's a
