Hello there,
I’m a new Taos owner, I’m loving it.
a question, I can’t figure this out.
Is it possible to lock the doors from the inside panel? I.E., stop the car, shut it off, open the door, lock the doors from the inside panel, shut the door and be done..
All doors locked.
Is this possible?

VW have not allowed that for a long time from drivers door to stop you from getting locked out

So the options are to lock on the small button on the outside handle of the door or the key fob? Or I suppose the phone app as well

I find the button on outside very easy. app would be a pain as it tends to sign you out more than I'd like. fob is normal for me on my older truck. I actually like the outside button, much easier than getting the fob.

our 2006 vw wouldn't let you lock via the inside panel and shut the door. I have no idea how far back that protection goes back but I like it. I actually have not used the inside panel on my truck as a safeguard to getting locked out for years.

No new cars let you potentially lock yourself out?

Why want to lock the door before you get out? Makes no sense lol

all new cars follow the same protocols. Get out hit key fob and lock. Or use a key if you don’t have a remote. (Very rare and in some manufacturers base models)

Ok, I promise I won’t lock myself out! 🤣
Next question……can you mute the stereo? Not just turn the volume all the way down, simply push a button and mute the signal….then unmute also.

Also can’t lock the door with the key detected inside and door open for same reason.

Locking the doors with the inside button was very common among US made cars because their autolock technology was garbage. The key just unlocked the door you put it in, that’s it. To lock or unlock other doors you needed to use the driver door panel. And it led to hundreds of thousands of drivers locked out of their cars annually.

That “functionality” stuck around for a long time even when it wasn’t needed.

Our family only owned German cars and as a kid I never understood how it was possible to lock your keys in your car because if the car had power locks, you used your key to lock the car.

Question: I just stepped out of a lease for a 2019 Mazda CX5 into a 2023 Taos SE, previously had a 2017 Mazda 3 and also currently have a 2020 Honda CRV. In all 3 cars, after parking and turning off car, I am able to step out of car, close doors and walk away with the doors auto-locking after I get a certain distance from the car - is there a setting on the Taos to do this? It is very convenient especially if you're carrying stuff out of the car like I do with my child, groceries etc, and your hands are full. To go back to the door and push the button is annoying, I know, first-world problem but curious if VW uses that tech.

I don’t think so on any VW.

You can press the button on the keyfob from a significant distance though

To answer your specific question...yes there is a way to do it, but you need a Carista OBD programmer. I had mine set up to all lock automatically when I jumped out of the car with the key fob in hand or pocket. It did get annoying for a bit so I turned the feature off. But it's good for quick trips to the store in the hood.

My local tire place does this so that I can pick the car up after hours, using my extra key fob. I always assumed that they held the door handle up while everything is locked, and then shut the door.
