It looks simple and I have some marine batteries I use for a trolling motor so pulling power from the car would be unnecessary. After looking at a couple scan tools that look like a viable option, I may just go that route. I remember the days of a scan tool being a $1100 Snap on brick needing constant cartridge and adapter updates costing nearly that much. Under $50 for a scan tool the resets electric parking brake is well worth it, especially as I see another Taos in a year or so to replace my Dodge Journey.
Yeah, I need a scan tool that will do an ABS bleed for my Jeep, but after 2018 most FCA vehicles require a special add-on that most scan tools can't use, so the cheapest one for that application is like $750. Just my luck :(

That bites. 31000 miles may not sound like short brake life to many but My 86 D150 runs about 90000 miles for front pads and 150000 for rear shoes. My 16 Journey has 126000 miles on it and when the last set of tires were put on it a few weeks back the original pads were showing 50% front and back. I refuse to pay a dealer $569 for rear pads and rotors every 35000 miles. Better pads and a scotchbrite crosshatch on the rotors should work for a good long time.

Yeah, that dealer charge is a joke, this is a 30 minute job, so even if the shop is charging a $200/hr rate that's $100 plus pads, so no more than $200 lol.

They want to replace the rotors too which I find ridiculous. Soft pads should mean little to no wear on the rotors and I can't see a solid rotor being over $100 ea even if they were gold plated.

Just checked the pricing on pads and rotors from another Atlanta dealer and the parts from VW are just over $212. So the dealer I got the car from would be charging $350 in labor. That is insane.
