We have experience several instances when the after dark, lower brightness, level of the dashboard does not return to the daytime, full light level. When starting the car in the garage the automatic setting of the headlight switch activates the headlights to turn on. When out in the sunshine the dashboard brightness sometimes does not adjust to the daylight level when the headlights turn off, and the Daytime Running Lights activate, resulting in a very dim dash display. The fix has been to shut the ignition off and re-start which works most times. I was wondering if others have experienced this issue. Thanks for your thoughts.

I’ve experienced this, I even looked for the dimmer switch. Went to the dealer and they explained that there isn’t one and that it’s all automatic. I experienced this when driving due west in the afternoon.
it still happens from time to time, I just deal.

Wish I would have seen this sooner. You can definitely adjust the brightness of the display. You can’t do it while in CarPlay that I have found, but if you go to the Home Screen of the infotainment system, swipe down from the very top of the screen. There is a few others things I can’t remember such as like just, but you can adjust the brightness level of the dash :). If y’all can’t get to it, I can try to grab pictures later if that helps!

Although you can adjust it within the infotainment system, it does not remove the dim issue. You just adjust various levels of dim.
I've had the issue a few times, and I also shut off the car and restart to fix it

This happened to me once it was dusk outside and the sun was at a weird angle and when I manually turned the lights off a message came on to please turn the lights on. I think I even stopped the engine and restarted and it was still doing it, It hasn't happened since though. On the S trim the sensor is on the front middle of the dash.

I swear this forum is haunted! As soon as I posted this I went to run some errands in the Taos and it did it again. When I pulled out of the garage I could barely see the dash and radio screens and the sun was bright - it was 5pm on a July afternoon with no clouds. When I tried to turn off the lights with the switch the message came up to Please turn on the Lights. It was like the car was in complete darkness! When I got to the Walgreens drivethru I turned off the engine for a good 5 minutes until all the dash lights went out, finally the little green Auto light on the light switch went out. When I restarted the car everything was normal. I think this Forum is jinxing my car so this will be my last post here. Everyone please enjoy your Taos and good luck with these flakey cars!

Ive got this twice already and not sure what I did new to get into this one. It was another dark bright sunny hot day in texas and could see nothing on the screen with my sunglasses put on. I took my sunglasses off and could see some after carefully looking.
