With the new firmware do we even need to mod the throttle response?
When did you get the firmware update and what is its revision#?

No one is suggesting you need to do anything, it's an option that only you can decide is right for you.

Response over time is different than response over threshold and can only be evaluated if you are adventurous enough to give it a try.

I come from a stick shift world and like the tactile feel of direct throttle response as I mash the accelerator.

Absolutely. I’ve a few VWs and Audis and I’ve had great success on turning on all the good stuff
3 quickies I'd like... heated seats and heated steering wheel on with remote start via key-fob or car-net. tilt passenger side mirror down in reverse to monitor curb.

Also, if I'm gonna pay subscription fees to Carista they should provide VW manufacture code definitions and not link me out to some ambiguous web site.

I tried using the "direct, controlled by threshold" version but found that I actually prefer the stock, "time based" throttle setting better. I also signed up for the Beta version recently and discovered I can change the color of the 8" display with it. It's a bit buggy (if you try to go from one color to another it sometimes doesn't work without going back to "none" first) but I like the Orange, but other colors are available. I also enabled the "menu" for it but I can't find it, I'm assuming that only applies to the larger pro digital cockpit, but I plan to email carista with that and a few other questions to be sure.

For example, the auto-lowering in reverse setting does not work, and there is no menu available in the infotainment despite that option being enabled now in Carista. I'd also like to find out if there's a setting to default cruise control to normal mode, instead of defaulting to ACC since I tend to prefer regular cruise in most situations. It can be disabled easily but I'd rather it default to that.

I also enabled the ability to use the key fob to lock/unlock when the engine is running, and changed a few climate settings. Increased the max temp of the heated seats, and also increased the length of time the rear defroster will stay on. Also changed so recirc stays on after turning the car off. There's other stuff in there but I think a lot of the menus don't actually exist in the non-pro version of the digital cockpit, unfortunately. All the fun stuff in Carista is making me actually want to get VCDS to see what other customizations are available.

Does having Carista affect the manufacturer's warranty at all? I've been debating getting one for my car, but just wondering what the cons are.

No, it doesn't affect anything that would affect your warranty. It's not a tune or anything like that. If there's any cons they'd be that it's less capable than OBD11 or VCDS but also much easier to use.
