Hi folks. "This" close to becoming a Taos owner and have been reading. Car net is very confusing. Can someone sum up what is free and for how long and what is paid and when and for what? I seem to be reading conflicting information.

thanks...

It’s basically an app used to do anything your key fob can do and basic vehicle info. The app is free I believe 5 years then requires a yearly subscription. You can also do a driver score thing if you enable it (I don’t have it enabled.)
* There might be more but I’m new to vw and carnet myself.

It's pretty terrible. Once you get it finally all set up, it only works part of the time. Log in is a multi step process. Read some of the reviews on the app download page and you will see how much people hate it. My Subaru app never crashes and works great. Why can't VW get this one working???

The multi-step login (app itself, PIN for the car) is the most irritating thing, although at least on iOS you can use Face ID for both. Although randomly it still logs itself out and I have to go back and enter my password.

It wants us to log in every time. We don't have face id so we can use TouchID, but even after logging it, it will sometimes just not work.

Idk what is happening with most but I have had zero issues. Remote start, car info, even the notifications that the doors were open or windows left open. The free options are enough. The Wi-Fi and Safe/Secure are nice but not needed.

It's free but I wouldn't use it to make a decision to buy or not. Mine works fine, but I never really use it. As stated above, you can remote start using the key. I tested remote start from CarNet and it works fine but I've never needed it. Maybe I'm just old fashioned.

I completely second this. The WORST app I’ve experienced. However when I called to complain about having to register again EVERY DAY, I was advised VW is aware of how crappy it is and are releasing a new app 2/1 but not emailing it out until 3/15— so hold tight folks!!

Looks like there is an update to the app today for iOS. Maybe this will fix a few of your issues. Hopefully it doesn’t create more!
Yep, updated this morning and what was the first thing it did when i attempted to start the car? Timed out 1st try, wouldn't start 2nd try, 3rd try it worked but only after a few minutes of doing absolutely nothing. I came from General Motors OnStar app and never had an issue in the 4 yrs i owned their vehicle. That one cost 5$ a month, which i gladly paid but when thie Car Net app expires, i don't suspect i'll be paying for it unless there are major improvements. My gosh, some engineer or tech professional should be able to figure it out. Geeeeeeeez!!

My remote start does not work. Tells me it is unable to send the request. The rest of it works. Not sure why this does not. No one knows how to fix it.
