Hey,

Has anyone went through the hassle of finding out why in the world does the Taos not work with Car-net although it is a 2022 car, with the same structure and electronics as others from the lineup which do have the feature (I.e Atlas 2022).

Moreover, a Canadian Highline has all of the same features and electronics as a US SEL, minus the Car-Net.

Seems to me like something that could be enable with the flip of a switch…

I guess it is the way that vw canada has to persuade some buyers to go to the Tiguan. The Tiguan will offer car-net, automatic folding mirrors, electric tailgate, seats with memory, etc. I still prefer the Taos, the Tiguan drives like a school bus.

Yeah, segmentation makes sense. But then again, same tactic applies to the US and they still have car-net. Anyhow, as you said, Taos wins over Tiguan mostly due to the drive, even without all those little options.

The Canadian Taos doesn't seem to have the equipment for Car-Net from what I can see... unless it's all just hidden behind some trim, in which case, a quick pop-out of a plastic piece and install of the buttons could do it.. but I don't think it's wired for it :( I'm going to be super sad if the 2023 model has it... lol

Jumping in on this thread because I am extremely frustrated after my purchase of a 2022 Taos Highline 4-Motion in Canada. When leading up to purchasing this vehicle, I specifically asked if CarNet would be coming to the Taos, since basically every other SUV VW sells has this, even in Canada. It was a feature I thought should come standard or at least should have been included in the Highline trim.. Dealer says that they aren’t sure, and I even pressed if 2023 models would be coming soon and if it would have CarNet. They seemed to think the Taos wasn’t getting it and they had no idea when new models were coming… fast forward to less than 2 weeks after I have purchased this vehicle, and the 2023 Taos has been announced and is on the VW Canada site, with, that exact dealer already listed as receiving tons of 2023 stock (but only 1 Highline). The best part is, IT HAS CARNET.

Super furious, and I would have delayed purchasing the Taos to buy the 2023 model had I been told this was coming, the MSRP price between model years is only a $300 difference. I am calling that dealer and seeing what I can do, because I think that it is ridiculous that existing technology was not included in this market, even though other models have it, and now that they are putting it in the 2023, I feel like VW could and should let 2022 owners access this tech.

The service guy at my dealer says that Car-Net may be just a software upgrade or might need a module installed. If 2022 cars had it the US then more likely to be software with an ESIM installation hidden away as the Golf R has.

I still have no idea how they can’t do an update to give us this in Canada especially now that the Canadian 2023 Taos models HAVE IT. Infuriating.
Might be some legal thing wasn't sorted out or they didn't have a deal with a cell carrier.
Do you have the hotspot ability?
i have hotspot just for the sake of it, i can connect but cant do anything beyond that

Thats a shame, our American counterparts here are able to update OTA & we just get a raw deal😔
is there a way of bringing your car down into the United States to a dealership to have them do the install there? I remember when I had my Ford Focus and had transmission issues, we had it fixed down in the US under the warranty for free — I was very surprised and it was work that we could not get done back in Canada.

Honestly I might have to check that out. Especially since the 2023 Taos in Canada have Carnet. It’s worth a try and I live like 30 minutes from the nearest border crossing. Not sure if there’s any VW dealers nearby though. Will have to check! Good to know that you can take it down there for service. Thank you!
