I’m curious if any car expert here can tell me what exactly the gradual to direct throttle change does with the Carista? Is it essentially the same as pulling back into sport on the shifter? Is the experience the same?

I understand the 24IR ECU update does exactly that, switches it to direct as some folks have seen that on their Carista after the ECU update so that made me more curious about the setting. Still waiting on 24IR to show for my VIN :(

In layman's terms, it changes the throttle curve. Direct setting being a strait line on a graph from 0%-100% arching up 45° (think right triangle) and "directly" related to your foot position on the gas pedal (potentiometer). Gradual, controlled by time factors in a more traditional curve, by introducing exponential. It's movement, amplified to increase, commensurate upon throttle position. So you have less movement in the throttle but get a more drastic or desired effect depending on load, boost, rpm...etc. But if the turbo, throttle, and gear ratios don't match up, then Gradual becomes convoluted.

Thanks FBJ, that’s useful.
Would you say that direct setting is the same as when I pull back towards me on the shifter and switch to “S” or Sport mode?

Agree, the Direct throttle change alters the voltage map on the fly by wire throttle control. It survives any driving mode changes. This setting improved our ‘22,SE AWD before we got the 24iR update…didn’t need it after the update and reversed it back to “gradual, threshold” with good results. I kept the Carista Dynamic Steering, though.
