For next winter season I'm planning to go with a 17" wheel and purchase snow tires that put me close to the overall diameter of the OEM 18" wheels.

I've read the first generation are a match. Any other 17" VW wheels that will work?

Any VW OEM 17 inch wheel from 2006 to current should work.

Any VW or Audi with these specs:

• Bolt pattern (PCD): 5 x 112
• Center Bore (CB): 57.1
• Thread size (THD): 14 x 1.5
• Wheel Diameter: 16 — 18
• Width: 50 — 60
• Aspect ratio: 225 — 225
• Smallest — Largest tire size: 225/60R16 — 225/50R18

Most of the older Audi wheels that are 57.1CB are ET35, so they will poke out. I'd stick with VW wheels in the ET 45-49 range.
