Before I head over to the dealer, thought I'd ask the experts here. Has anyone experienced a problem with the infotainment system dropping connection via Android Auto? Phone seems to connect with no issue at the start of a drive, but connection breaks after a random time period. Could be 10 minutes, could be 20. And sometimes reconnection will happen..... Or it won't!

Anyone? And I do have the latest infotainment s/w update.

Check the settings on your phone.

Settings > Apps > all Apps > Android Auto

Once there, go to battery, and change battery usage to Unrestricted.

After that, back up a step and disable "remove permissions and free up space," just for good measure



There are a lot of points of failure here, this is just troubleshooting one that sounds likely; your phone is going into some deep sleep mode. The issue could lie in the head unit, the phone, the app itself, and all the interconnections therein.

I think this is usually a phone issue. With my last phone, a Oneplus 7T I experienced CONSTANT disconnects and refusal to reconnects with both a rental T-Cross in Germany and my Taos after I got it. As soon as I replaced it with an S21+ literally all of those issues disappeared instantly.

Agreed, I'd assume 90% of AA issues lie in the phone. My steps above should help by isolating Android Auto from power management and letting it run free, but with Android, it's not one size fits all and we're limited by whatever flavor the manufacturer has decided to add to Android.

While I prefer Android, it's much easier to diagnose a connectivity issue with CarPlay.

Arg, this happens to me with my iPhone! I’ll take any tips for iPhone.
