Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice. I bought the above car mentioned in Feb of this year and was very much in love with it. However, a few days ago, I was going to the store when I went to pull into a parking spot...meaning I was going very slow to pull in...when all of the sudden, the car had a sudden burst of acceleration, launching me over the parking curb, into a small tree and a sign. I'm fine, but the car needs a new radiator and a few other things. Some are covered under warranty as the car is only a month old. My question is this...I've read in other forums that 22 AWD models have acceleration lag and/or sudden bursts of acceleration issues...what can be done about it? Are there any pending software updates for the 23 models? It felt like the car was possessed and while I am working things out with my insurance company, the car is at VW getting looked out. They say they tested the computer system and it is fine. I plan on making a complaint with the NHSTA as well as VW of America. What happened wasn't normal. Can anyone offer some advice? Thanks so much

Ouch! Luckily the airbags didn't deploy but that must've been terrible. There's a software update for the '22 Taos that is supposed to address the throttle lag. Many of us have 'fixed it' on our own using the Carista app and changing the throttle mode to Direct instead of Gradual. I haven't gotten the official software update yet but the change to Direct made the accelerator much more predictable and the car easier to drive. To me, it's how the car is supposed to feel.

2023 SE 4motion here. I agree eco helps, but it is definitely not a solution. I am confident that it is because of the transmission being a clutch, not a traditional automatic. I also feel harsh downshifts when slowing down for a light or a stop. I bought the Tao's for my daughter but now I am second guessing my choice as it the opposite of smooth and not a fun place to be for a novice driver.

Let me know what you send to VW of America. I will echo your message.

I agree the car is very dangerous, I have had several near accidents. The worst experience so far is coming out of a typical left or right turn, the sudden burst to speed put me into opposite lane facing oncoming traffic. I try to use the sport mode when driving around town, it helps. I have a 2022 Taos SE fwd., Anyone have this issue fixed?

As already mentioned above, all 22s have a software fix available from VW. Call your dealer and schedule an appointment. The 23s do not have any software fix yet but I am hoping it's coming soon. We had few episodes when ours wouldn't reverse and had to be restarted several times to work. I've reported that to NHTSA. I suggest anyone who has any problem should do the same. VW won't fix anything unless we complain.

Thanks, I had 2 recalls already and 21 days out of service for unrelated issues with the infotainment system. Such an important software update should be automatic recall, I would think. 🤔😠😡
