I have a 22 SEL AWD and after 4 months of ownership I've noticed a few things.
1. The beats sound system is good, mine doesn't have any rattles and can handle some songs that my kia k5's Bose system rattles to. I wish the center channel speaker was real I think it would take the audio system to the next level.
2. The throttle can be jerky and slow here and there but I've learned to ease off the line and once you're in motion it has plenty of power. Dual cluthes are not my favorite I've had a optima with one that was also jerky.
3. I wish it had mirror mounted turn signal indicators. It would be nice to feel a little more assured when changing lanes that the car next to the lane you're intending on moving into can tell what you're doing. Also would look more premium.
4. Lastly I wish it had touch sensitive door handles, my past 2 Jettas, Tiguan and Passat which where all high trims had touch sensitive door handles and I feel like it is part of what makes a vw feel more premium.

Other than that I've loved the car, decent gas mileage and easy to get along with.

I echo your thoughts with my 2023 SE AWD. I've found the Taos to be an awesome runabout in town. It take a little extra effort to control at speed vs what a car would be. I've seemed to settle into the dual-clutch and get what I need from the transmission now. I'm at 2.5k miles so far. The highway FE can be good unless there's wind.

Great points all around. Fully agree. Overall I'm very happy with it, but the points you mention are things I've thought as well. I'd add a couple more:

1) I have a top trim AWD SEL and there is no automatic lift gate. It seems like a penny pinching move on a car that has heated/cooled seats, heated steering wheel, a digital dash with navigation, premium sounds system, etc...

2) The beats sound system sounds decent enough, but the soundstage feels VERY cockpit forward. The rear speakers are so anemic that you can't get a full soundstage no matter how hard I try to adjust the front/rear balance.

3) The cabin noise seems a bit high. I'll forgive them for that considering this is an entry level vehicle, but it can take away from the sound system for sure. (It could be the 19" low profile tires too)

Hey just want you to know that jerkiness will go away . It smooths out nicely once driven for awhile. Try some of the different driving modes.
It really changes how the vehicle shifts and feels. I do find that I get the best gas mileage in
Normal mode. The blind spot monitors were left out because of the chip shortage. They gave you
a maintenence package to compensate for the items they didn't have chips for. Door handles also

Interesting… my car has blind spot monitors. I also got one of the first ones out of the factory. Maybe it has something to do with that? Glad I did. Blind spot monitors are useful tablestakes now a days.

Yes they are. I had to add some blind spot mirrors on mine. I quess safety doesn't matter
When there is a chip shortage. I know the sel still had all the bells and whistles

Oh I will try that out more, mine has Blindspot monitors. I was just talking about the turn signal blinkers integrated into the side mirrors that all my other vw's have had. I didn't realize that I liked having them that much until I got a car that didn't.

I like the touch button better than touch sensitive door handle. It's simpler and less confusing for some people. You grab the handle and push the button to lock or unlock, and you can also double check that the door is locked by pulling the handle. With touch sensitive it is not possible.

This, and if you've ever hand washed your car with your key in pocket then you'd know the water stream locks/unlocks the doors on the older style kessy setup (non push button).

Me too. The one on my old Tiguan would never unlock if it was in direct sunlight. A minor annoyance, but the button on the Taos works every time.
