Hi,

I have winter wheels from my 2019 Jetta that are 205/60 R16

Dealers parts guy said they will fit but online I am seeing the recommended size:

225/55 R 17 Tire for 4Motion AWD.

They both come out to almost identical height 123 vs 123.75.

Does that look correct and is it safe to use the Jetta wheels, will the speedometer be off or width too narrow?

Thanks!

I believe your overall diameter will be too low, at greater than 4% off the factory wheel/ tire combo. Your side wall height is very close, however you’ve lost an inch of wheel. At speedometer of 100kph, you’d actually be at 95.4. Load rating could also be an issue. sorry for the bad news. I dropped to a 16” winter at 215/65R16 and it’s very close to original diameter.

Thank you fellow Canadian! Very informative.. I should of got the dealer to throw in some winter wheels when I was negotiating.

I'll just sell and buy something proper.

Sure they will "fit". But that would leave you with 1) incorrect tire size 2) incorrect load rating 3) incorrect offset. If you want to run a 16" tire, you need a wheel with a 40-45mm offset. Jetta's typically run a 48-50mm offset. Not only would the tires be skinnier, they would set further in, so you lose about 2" of track width. Running a 16" wheel from a 2017 or older Tiguan would be your best bet, I believe these are 35mm offset.

Thank you very informative!

By the time I get the taos, winter will be over lol.

But that's why the dealer only said 'they will fit' they never said it will be a proper fit, sneaky of them.

Those are going to be pretty big - 3.7% increase in diameter. 215/65R16 is very close to stock.
They may fit, but the speedometer will be off. They could rub a bit - I don't know.
Assuming the rims are properly spec'd for a 2020 Tiguan the offset should be right (35-45mm). Lower offset would reduce the chance of rubbing.
