2022 Volkswagen Taos EPA-estimated fuel economy ratings announced for all models
All Taos 4Motion® all-wheel-drive models feature a 7-speed DSG® dual-clutch automatic transmission and have EPA-estimated ratings of 25 mpg city, 32 mpg highway, and 28 mpg combined. All ratings are based on regular unleaded fuel.
“We developed the Taos for North America with a balance of efficiency and drivability that we’ve rarely seen from competitors in the compact SUV space,” said Hein Schafer, senior vice president of product and strategy for Volkswagen of America. “We think customers will embrace a fun-to-drive, well-equipped SUV at a very competitive price point.”
All versions of the Taos are powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged and direct-injection EA211 engine making 158 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. Thanks to sophisticated technology such as variable geometry turbocharging, the Taos delivers excellent fuel economy and spirited performance.
According to the EPA, buyers of the 2022 Taos front-wheel-drive model can save as much as $750 in fuel over five years compared to the national average new vehicle, while those who choose the all-wheel-drive Taos can save as much as $250.
The Taos is expected to go on sale in June. The vehicle is positioned in the largest U.S. vehicle segment, the compact SUV market, where 4 million vehicles were sold in 2019—around 24 percent of the market. MSRP for the 2022 Volkswagen Taos compact sport utility vehicle will start at $22,995 for the front-wheel-drive model and $24,445 for 4Motion AWD.
