My Check Engine Light is on again! I just past 6,000 miles on a trip up to NY STate when the check engine light came on. It happened once before at around 1,000 miles and they had to replace a filter, I forget what. I had filled up with gas and checked the cap. Have filled up with gas since then so it’s not that. Any ideas? I can’t get into the car dealership till the 30th of November. That’s the earliest I could get an appointment. The light is solid.

You can go to most any auto part store and they can pull the codes for free, just takes a few minutes. Once you get the code you can just do a google on what that code is for.

Probably the fuel vent pump that has been prone to sticking. Since the light is solid it should be fine to drive.

with any new car, I like to have the ability to read the codes to see if its something that requires action. the MX+ obd2 adapter is the one I have and it is cross compatible with different apps. my taos keeps having the stuck fuel vapor valve and the dealer has replaced it, but it has no impact on the car function.

there are other ELM2 compatible adapters on amazon that also work but they might not be as cross compatible with phone apps available.

I got my OBD2 reader on ebay for like $20, it's worked for the Taos, a 19 Jeep Wrangler, 09 Infiniti G37, 07 Infiniti G35, and 03 Toyota 4Runner. I always keep it in the vehicle I'm currently driving if I'm on an out of town road trip. It sucks to be in the middle of nowhere and the light comes on and you still have a couple hundred miles to a town, not knowing is the worst part :(

the potential issue with the cheap adapters is they are not supported by the more advanced tools that include vendor specific changes. like carista only supports a handfull of adapters. all adapters will work for CEL function.

thats why I'd just get a better one and for future compatibilitiy

I actually called another VW dealership and was able to get an appointment tomorrow. So we’ll see what they have to say. I have to leave the car. I can’t wait for it.

Well I went to the dealer and the check engine light went out as I pulled up. LOL I went in anyway. They said there was a recall on mine. Something to do with computer software. Updating the software cleared the codes on the check engine light so they said if it happens again to bring it back. They also gave me a printed supplement to the manual.

Im here now at my local dealer and the same with mine with the software there is a recall and I barely made my first payment. Starting to worry if I made the right choice

I can understand your apprehension however mine has been a good car. With a new model I would guess it’s to be expected to have a software update I have my fingers crossed that the update takes care of the check engine light. 😉

My daughter had the check engine light on and had taken it in twice before. This last time she took it in and told them to check all the recalls and also had seen on here that someone had headgasket issues. Sure enough. It was a bad head gasket and a number of hoses that the bad head gasket ruined.

Oh my gosh, that’s awful 😞! Has she had any issues since?
