Hi all,
Eventually I will be changing out the speakers and possibly adding a subwoofer. I will document my findings here for other users in the future.

From the looks through the grills on the doors, it looks like each door has a 5 1/4" speaker. Please correct me if someone knows otherwise. Crutchfield has no information on the vehicle yet.

Let me know if you figure out how to remove the door panel and or access the radio, I'm trying install speakers in my Taos and Best Buy couldn't find a guide. The tech was guessing the door speakers are 6.5 though, although, we never actually removed the cover to see. Furthermore, I did find out from VW Parts that the stock speakers are wide band speakers (part#: 17a035710). Hope we get our answers soon! I already have a Kicker Comp R Sub ready to install.

Crutchfield actually lists the car on their website now, so hopefully they will have the data sheets soon. From what I have found it should be very similar to the Jetta audio parts wise.

Yeah I tried through them but no luck yet. I should of tried that out at Best Buy, they confirmed it is not similar to the Tiguan or Atlas.

Keeping hitting the Crutchfield page, the more demand they see for the specs/details the faster they will get a demo vehicle in to take apart.
Great idea! Will do, I tried calling VW Car Net and they weren't able to help. There is a recall for mine so I have to go get it serviced I'm going to ask if a tech can remove the panel and measure the indoor speakers. Also see if they have guides for accessing the radio. I feel they would have to have guides incase a warranty claim was put on the speakers or radio they need to know hot to remove and install. I will let you know as soon as I get something 👍

If your recall is for the fuel line I recommend you check with dealer to make sure they have the special tool it takes as I have been waiting over a week. Mine was in the shop 2 days as they said the tool was due in , as of today no tool.

Thank you so much for the heads-up. It is for that fuel line. If you don't mind me asking, which dealer did you go to?

VW Cerritos, CA I believe has the tool. I am getting my car serviced right now, said it will be done by four. I also asked them to measure the door speakers and will let everyone know what they tell me. Furthermore, I spoke with Crutchfield, they said they could do a demo car if someone in Virginia offers their car to test. You would just have to call them and let them know you want your car to be a demo, sooooo who's willing?haha

Hello everyone!

I got my Sub installed! They connected it via my wire harness and idk how they knew exactly where to go, but they didn't go to the radio. The sub sounds great no problems and it was quick. It was a specialty sound shop called: SoundScape at 11890 Woodruff Ave, Downey, CA 90241 [562-803-6040]. They charged $180 to install the SUB and I told them to recheck the door speakers so I can get some and they told me they are 6.5s so I am buying 6.5 components this week and will have them install them if I encounter any issues I will post it here. Although, I am sure any specialty sound shop should be able to install speakers in the TAOS.

This is awesome thank you, it does refer to another document in the actual steps to remove the panel, do you happen to have that one as well?

It refers to - Remove the left rear door trim panel. Refer to ⇒ Body Interior; Rep. Gr. 70; Rear Door Trim Panels; Rear Door Trim Panel, Removing and Installing.
