Hi Everyone,
I am new to this forum and new to VW. We recently bought a 2022 Taos SE 4 motion in the Gray(Nardo Gray) for my daughter. The car was a perfect size for her and well they were available. We test drove it and she loved it. We now fast forward 3 weeks and 2600 miles(She plays travel softball and is being recruited so lots of camp visits) and upon arriving home yesterday the car now has a Check Engine light on, EPC light on, Auto Start/Stop Disabled and Lane departure not available. I am assuming we have multiple issues here as I can't see a CEL being on for the other items but could be wrong. I see some people saying it is octane fuel related and if that is the case this will be gone in no time as a 16 year old can't afford to put premium at the way she is driving. Anyway, it's in the shop now and waiting to hear what is going on. Very frustrating to say the least.

this car runs fine on regular grade.. the computer will just slightly down tune it, no issues.

the main check engine light issue is the fuel vapor valve which has no impact on driving. you could have other things going on.. however, some people have alterd the vehicle such that the other things don't work.. there is a radar behind the VW logo up front. changing anything in that area can impact its funciton. the camera for lanes is at top of windshield and if its not cleanish, it won't work right. that is why the wipers go over that space.

no telling what the issue is without getting the code read. any auto part store will do that for free. I'd invest in a mobile app for reading it. the hardware is fairly cheap and its great to have on hand.

easy fix I guess. this should never happen from a busy gas station that has relatively new tanks underground or is a top tier provider. don't go to the ones that don't sell through the gas they have or don't have updated tanks.

just to be clear, the car absolutely does not require anything above regular 87 octane gas. any mid grade or premium is wasted money, it even says so on the fuel door.

at least it was something simple like draining the tank, you got lucky with that. repair parts are in short supply.

secifying an octance isn't clear. in some areas the low grade is 85 (higher altitudes) and 87 is the middle grade. the lowest octane in your area is fine for this car..

that just means the computer tunes a bit more power out of the high octane than the lower. that is on purpose because the lower octane is less stable so the program detects that and runs a little less power. no issues otherwise.

Buy reputable gas. Don’t fill up a 40k car with Jonny no name gas. Use what it says on the inside of the filler. Anything over that number is a utter wast of money. If In a total bind 85 would be ok but just enough to get to a place for 87. All logical. With due respect having a car like this at 16 is a total luxury and affording gas comes as part of car ownership.

These are weird times for efficiency that we are in now. Unheard of to have so many tiny, powerful turbo engines that run on regular gas with good mileage, pushing around fairly large cars.

This would have been a non starter for me to buy a turbo car if 93 was required. Even before this whole Ukraine thing blew up the prices went up over what they were pre-covid. Now they are worse. And premium used to be only about 30 cents a gallon over regular and now it's almost a dollar a gallon more.

I don't feel sorry for the brodozer drivers. Enjoy your fuel bills.

No harm will be done to the car it’s literally throwing money away as you get no power gains whatsoever.
Not looking for power gains. Typically big name gas retailers only put their best additives in the highest grade of fuel, so I run it. Additionally, I bought the Taos in February and have only put gas in it 5 or 6 times now, so the $8 extra dollars each time, doesn't really matter to me.
